Concordia wins the defensive battle over women's basketball 60-54.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – In a matchup between two undefeated conference teams, Concordia got the best of Cornerstone 60-54. It was a struggle on the offensive side of the ball for the Golden Eagles, shooting 31.7% for the game with Jaxi Long being the only one being able to score having a team high 17 points. Abby Long for Concordia was a thorn in the side for the Golden Eagles as she led all scorers with 27 points and going perfect from the free throw line down the stretch. Cornerstone moves to 4-3 (3-1) on the season as they will travel to (RV) Indiana Tech next week on Saturday, December 9 tipping off at 1 p.m.
 
 
Game Highlights – Concordia – 60 Cornerstone - 54
 
  • First Quarter
    • Jaxi Long got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles and the game with a nice jumper.
    • Concordia would answer that was an 8-0 run to take an 8-2 lead through the first two-minutes of the game.
    • Jaxi Long would break the scoring drought for the Golden Eagles with a three that would spark a 7-1 run for Cornerstone to tie the game 9-9 with just over four-minutes remaining.
    • It has been all defense through the first 10-minutes of the game as Cornerstone leads Concordia 13-11 after the end of the first quarter.
 
  • Second Quarter
    • Concordia opened the second quarter on a 6-0 that would see them retake the lead, 17-13 over the Golden Eagles.
    • Jaxi Long breaks the four-minute scoring drought to open the second quarter with a nice left-handed shot to make it a 17-15 game with under six-minutes to go.
    • Megan Bennett and Jaxi Long used nice moves that led to a baskets as they tie the game 19-19 with four-minutes remaining.
    • Both teams have continued to find their scoring at the free throw line as the Cardinals have extended their lead to three, 25-22 with just over a minute remaining.
    • Olivia Kubik makes a three for the Golden Eagles with 28 seconds left to make it a 27-25 game as Cornerstone would get the stop to head into halftime down two. Abby Long for Concordia has a game high 13 points as Jaxi Long leads the way for the Golden Eagles with nine.
 
  • Third Quarter
    • Cornerstone and Concordia opened the third quarter trading baskets as the Cardinals lead 33-31 two-minutes into the third quarter.
    • Defense has continued to shine for both teams as neither team has scored a field goal since the eight-minute mark as Concordia continues to lead 36-31 with under four-minutes to go in the third.
    • Mackenzie Stien gets the layup and the foul as Jaylee Long follows that up with a three pointer to bring Cornerstone within two, 39-37.
    • Jaxi Long beats the buzzer for the Golden Eagles as they find themselves down one 41-40 at the end of third.
 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Concordia opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to give themselves a 49-40 lead with seven-minutes remaining in the final quarter.
    • The Golden Eagles would respond with a 10-0 run to take a 50-49 lead after a Megan Bennett made layup. Jaxi Long started the run with five-straight points.
    • Concordia would then use a run of their own again to take a 53-50 lead over the Golden Eagles with 1:30 remaining in the game.
    • Mackenzie Stien would make a quick basket for the Golden Eagles as Concordia would use one of their timeouts. 53-52 Concordia.
    • Cornerstone had to start fouling Concordia after a missed three-pointer, as the Cardinals have started to grow their lead at the free throw line 57-52, with 30-second remaining.
    • The Golden Eagles could not get the three to fall when they needed it as they fall on the road to Concordia 60-54.
 
By the Numbers
17 – Jaxi Long led the way for Cornerstone with 17 points.
31/27 – Both teams struggled shooting from the floor with Cornerstone shooting 31.7% while Concordia shot 27.9%.
 
 
What's Next?
Golden Eagles remain on the road as they travel to Indiana Tech on Saturday, December 9 for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
