Men’s Soccer unable to upset Indiana Tech in WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech found goals in the final minute of the first half and first minute of the second half to doom the Golden Eagles 3-0 in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal. CU was unable to upset the two seed Warriors, and end their season with a 6-9-4, 4-5-2 WHAC record overall.

First Half:
  • Cornerstone stayed red hot as they have been the last four games, getting a few early offensive chances in the first 15 minutes of the half. Calvin Curtis recorded a fifth minute shot that was blocked by the Warrior defense, and Tyler Corstange recorded a header that required a save from IIT keeper David Martinez. 
  • After a few more shots from the Golden Eagles, Indiana Tech started to find their offense near the half hour mark. Roberto Gutierrez made just his second save of the game in the 32nd minute to stop a Lucca Motta shot on net and keep the game scoreless. 
  • Tyler Corstange responded with a shot for CU in the 34th minute that was on net, but once again saved by the Warriors. 
  • Indiana Tech recorded their best chance of the day just before the half, as Luke Jones hit the post in the 43rd minute. 
  • With under a minute left in the half, Indiana Tech got another shot in their end of half flurry that would find the net. Ryan Steele would score with 28 seconds left to make it 1-0 Warriors at the break. 
Second Half:
  • Indiana Tech dominated from the start of the second half, scoring just 28 seconds into the period as Marc Junca found the net. The Warriors scored two goals in under a minute of game action to take a 2-0 lead. 
  • Frustration started to build for the Golden Eagles leading to a yellow card. 
  • A third goal was scored from Warren Moss in the 57th minute on a nice pass from Lucca Motta into the box. Indiana Tech led 3-0 with a half hour to play. 
  • With 20 minutes to play in the second half, Cornerstone was outshot 6-0 in the period. 
  • Cornerstone had no answer in the final 20 minutes of play as they would fall 3-0 to end their season. 
 
By The Numbers
3-3 – Tyler Corstange led the team in shots with three, all three of them being on net. 
22-5 – Cornerstone was out shot 22-5 on the day. 
6 – The CU defense forced six offsides calls on Indiana Tech on the day.

Cornerstone's season has come to an end in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal.
