WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace got the best of women's basketball in their nonconference matchup 92-71. An early second half run from Cornerstone saw them within five of Grace, but the Golden Eagles struggled handling the press of the Lancers as they racked up 28 turnovers. Grace would capitalize on those errors scoring 35 points off those turnovers. Maddison Fulks led the way for Cornerstone with 20 points on five made threes. CU heads into Christmas break at 5-5 on the season as they will host Bethel on Friday, December 29.
 
 
Game Highlights – Grace – 92 Cornerstone - 71
 

• First Quarter
  • Olivia Kubik came out on fire for the Golden Eagles scoring the first five points to give Cornerstone an early 5-0 lead.
  • Grace responded to that with a 10-2 run to take a 10-7 lead, making a basket in four straight possessions as seven minutes remain in the first quarter.
  • Grace continued to score at will as they have extended their lead 23-9 with three minutes remaining as Cornerstone has only been able to score at the free throw line.
  • Emma Costen scores the first field goal in over six minutes for the Golden Eagles, but the turnovers have haunted CU as Grace continued to push their lead farther, 28-11.
  • Maddison Fulks drills back-to-back threes, one that beats the first quarter buzzer, to give Cornerstone momentum going into the second quarter down 28-17.

 

• Second Quarter
  • Emma Costen and Megan Bennett kept the scoring going for the Golden Eagles, but Grace would answer with baskets of their own as they continued to lead 35-23 with seven minutes to go in the second.
  • More turnovers from the Golden Eagles have led to easy baskets for the Lancers as they lead 40-25 with five minutes remaining in the second.
  • Maddison Fulks and Emma Costen score five straight points for the Golden Eagles as Mackenzie Stien gets an easy layup off the press as Grace continued to lead 52-33.
  • Maddison Fulks makes one more three before the half as Cornerstone finds themselves down 52-36 at halftime. Turnovers have been a thorn in the side of the Golden Eagles as they have 16 through two quarters.

 

• Third Quarter
  • Jaylee Long got the third quarter started with a long three point make. Stops on the other end and three straight Stephanie Ainsworth layup gave Cornerstone a quick 9-0 run to open the half cutting Grace's lead 52-45.
  • Maddison Fulks cuts Grace's lead to five with a floater in the lane, 56-51 with just under six minutes. CU has outscored Grace 15-3 to open the third quarter.
  • More turnovers from CU and a banked in three from Grace has stopped the Golden Eagle run as they have extended their lead back to double digits, 62-51.
  • Cornerstone got the fast break going as Olivia Kubik makes an easy layup to make it 64-56 with three minutes remaining.
  • Grace beats the buzzer with a three pointer to end the half on a 10-0 run to lead 74-56 after the third.

 

• Fourth Quarter
  • Jaylee Long makes another three as Stephanie Ainsworth makes another layup to open the fourth quarter on a 5-2 run as it is 76-61 Grace.
  • Maddison Fulks gets the three to go as Grace continued to score at the free throw line.
  • The Golden Eagles brought pressure on the defensive end with a full court press that saw a few Grace turnovers lead to Cornerstone points. The Lancers lead late 81-66.
  • Grace continued to close out the game at the free throw line as the Golden Eagles fall 92-71
