GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles will conclude a five-game home stand this weekend, hosting a make-shift quad style tournament that will see them play three games over a two-day period. CU will play Life University out of Georgia on Friday night at 7 p.m. before a two-court setup on Saturday where Cornerstone will host Lawrence Tech at noon for a WHAC contest and Trinity International at 2:30 p.m. for a non-conference test. David Galanes 500 kills
Junior
David Galanes continues to lead CU on the offensive end as he has 144 kills through 13 games in 2023. Galanes last weekend surpassed 500 career kills, making him the first Cornerstone player to hit the milestone in the short three-year program history. Galanes has an outstanding hitting percentage this season as well at .328.
Voloch earns WHAC Setter of the Week
Patrick Voloch is having an outstanding season as he last week recorded a career high 59 assists in a five-set thriller vs. Bethel. Voloch joins
Kyi Jagorin with two WHAC Athlete of the Week award honors to lead the team. On the year, Voloch has 457 assists to sit fourth in the NAIA in that category.
Still Receiving Votes
A new NAIA Top 15 poll has come out and Cornerstone still sees their name in the article despite losing a game over the last two weeks. CU is receiving votes for the second consecutive week as they continue to get national attention for the first time in the program's history. In the latest poll, CU has five votes which puts them as the 25
th best team in the NAIA.
Quad Tournament Outlook
The structure of this weekend's tournament will be as follows:
Four teams will compete at CU in a true classic style tournament. On Friday, Cornerstone will play Life at 7 p.m. for the only game of the day.
On Saturday there will be two courts set up inside Mol Arena. Cornerstone will play on court one and Life will play on court two. Cornerstone will start with Lawrence Tech at noon for a WHAC contest against the Blue Devils, while Life takes on Trinity International on court two. At the conclusion of both those contests, Lawrence Tech and Trinity International will change courts to take on the other opponent with an estimated start time of 2:30 p.m.
