FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Golden Eagles traveled to the top seed and WHAC Champion Indiana Tech for a tough WHAC Tournament Semifinal on Saturday evening and would fall 87-63, ending an outstanding bounce back season. CU was outscored 20-7 in the first quarter and was unable to comeback from there as they conclude 2022-23 with a 15-14, 13-7 WHAC record. Cornerstone will now begin preparations for 2023-24 as they hit the offseason.
Game Flow:
First Quarter:
- After Mackenzie Stien scored the first bucket, Indiana Tech got off to a fast offensive start with a 7-0 run highlighted by an and-one from Genevieve Decker to take a 7-2 lead.
- With 6:01 to play in the first period, Kennedy Helderop banked in a three to get the CU offense going again as they trailed 7-5.
- Foul trouble and Indiana Tech strong defense helped the Warriors take command the remainder of the first quarter. IIT went on another long run to lead 20-7 after 10 minutes of play.
Second Quarter:
- Kaitlyn Cain getting some big first half minutes was able to get a steal early in the second period for an easy layup to put Cornerstone down 14 at 23-9.
- Mackenzie Stien did some great work to keep Cornerstone within 14 with a driving layup and a block as CU trailed 29-15 with five minutes to go in the half.
- Head Coach Jessica Yonkers would use a timeout after a 6-0 run put the Warriors up by their largest lead so far of 35-15.
- Maddison Fulks hit a much-needed Golden Eagle three for the last points of the first half for CU as they trailed 41-20 at the intermission.
- Indiana Tech shot 51.5% in the first half, while CU shot 23.5%.
Third Quarter:
- Indiana Tech started with the ball in the third quarter. They hit a bucket, stole the ball on the inbound and hit another bucket along with a foul for a quick five-point possession making it 46-20.
- Five straight points from Olivia Kubik helped Cornerstone cut into the Warrior lead slightly with 5:44 to play as they trailed 50-27.
- The Golden Eagle offense continued to find their stride in the third quarter behind the inside game of Stephanie Ainsworth, but they could not get a stop. CU was outscored 27-24 in the period as they trailed 68-44 on the game.
Fourth Quarter:
- Jaylee Long got into the offensive action early in the fourth quarter, hitting a three to bring CU back within 21.
- Maddison Fulks added another Golden Eagle three to make the score 74-53 with 5:58 to play.
- Cornerstone and Indiana Tech continued to trade buckets throughout the fourth quarter. Mackenzie Stien hit a layup with 2:55 to play and the Golden Eagles then used a full timeout trailing 81-59.
- CU was unable to get much closer as they would fall 87-63 to the WHAC Regular Season Champion Warriors, ending their season.
By the numbers:
50.8 – Indiana Tech was lights out from the field, hitting 30 of 59 attempts to shoot 50.9% from the field.

Stephanie Ainsworth and
Maddison Fulks nearly combined for half of CU's points as Ainsworth had 18 and Fulks had 14.
24-16 – Fouls cost CU all game as they fouled 24 times compared to IIT's 16 and saw three players foul out.

Cornerstone's season has come to an end in the WHAC Tournament Semifinal at top seeded Indiana Tech.
