ELGIN, Ill. – Men's Volleyball swept the weekend as they went 2-0 on the day to go 4-0 overall on the weekend. Cornerstone began their day with a 3-0 sweep of Olivet College 25-13, 25-17, 25-11. They then followed it up with a 3-1 victory over Judson University 22-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-22. Cornerstone found themselves hitting over .330 in both games to help them dominate the day. The third-year program is off to their best start as they move to 7-1 on the season. Cornerstone returns home on Tuesday, February 7 to face off against WHAC opponent Siena Heights.
Game One: Cornerstone – 3 Olivet – 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-11)
- First Set
- Olivet got off to a quick start I set one as they jumped out to a 5-3 lead taking advantage of the Cornerstone errors.
- Cornerstone responded with a 5-1 run that saw them take the 8-6 lead thanks to a kill by Joshua Beaumont and two service aces by Andrew Galanes.
- It was 12-10 Cornerstone before Cornerstone rallied off six-straight points to give themselves the 18-10 lead forcing an Olivet timeout. Cornerstone took advantage of the Olivet errors and kills by Andrew Galanes and David Galanes.
- The Golden Eagles continued being the aggressors as they took seven of the last 10 points to win the first set 25-13. The Galanes brothers and Joshua Beaumont led the way down stretch for Cornerstone
- Second Set
- Andrew Galanes got the second set going for the Golden Eagles recording a solo block.
- Cornerstone jumped out to a 5-3 lead thanks to kills by Ethan Walker and Joshua Beaumont.
- Cornerstone rallied off five-straight points to take the 10-5 lead over Olivet as Brunno Peres had multiple kills for the Golden Eagles.
- Olivet went a little 7-4 run to cut the Cornerstone lead to three 14-11.
- Cornerstone answered with a 6-2 run of their own to extend their lead 20-13 thanks to a service ace by Cade Meza and kills by Landon Waltz.
- Cornerstone closed the set on a high not thanks to a service ace by Max Hernandez and kills by Patrick Voloch and Brunno Peres to win set two 25-17.
- Third Set
- It was an even one to start set three as it is tied 4-4 early as Brunno Peres added a service ace early.
- Cornerstone has finally found a little momentum as they are now leading 7-5 after a service ace by Landon Waltz.
- The Golden Eagles just rallied off nine-straight points to give themselves the 16-6 lead. Kyi Jagorin added a service ace while Patrick Voloch and Brunno Peres added kills in the run.
- Ethan Walker and Landon Waltz added a nice block to extend Cornerstone's lead 19-9 late in the third set.
- Cornerstone would finish the third set on a 6-2 run to win the set and match. Joshua Beaumont and Jackson Bush got the finishing kills for the Golden Eagles to win 25-11.
Game Two: Cornerstone – 3 Judson – 1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-22)
- First Set
- Cornerstone and Judson battled to start the game as it was tied early 4-4 after kills by Andrew Galanes and David Galanes.
- Cornerstone found some momentum and took the early 9-7 lead after kills by Patrick Voloch and David Galanes.
- Judson has rallied off seven-straight points forcing Cornerstone to use one of their timeouts as Judson now leads 16-11 taking advantage of the Cornerstone errors.
- Cornerstone has returned the favor going on a 5-1 run to cu the Judson lead to one, 17-16. David Galanes and Brunno Peres had kills for the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone has rallied to tie the game 20-20 as they forced Judson to use one of their timeouts.
- Judson finished the set strong win a service ace to win set one 25-22.
- Second Set
- A kill by Andrew Galanes gave Cornerstone the early 3-2 lead to start off the second set.
- Cornerstone and Judson have continued to battle early as two errors by Judson has given the Golden Eagles a 7-6 lead.
- The Golden Eagles have rallied off four-straight points on the Eagles to take the 12-9 lead thanks to a service ace by Patrick Voloch.
- Judson used a little run to cut the lead to one, but another 4-0 run. By Cornerstone has given them a 16-12 lead after a kill by Andrew Galanes.
- Judson has taken advantage of the Cornerstone errors and have rallied off five-straight points to take the 18-17 lead.
- Cornerstone took the late 21-19 lead thanks to a kill by Brunno Peres as the Golden Eagles are looking to finish the second set strong.
- Andrew Galanes had back-to-back kills for the Golden Eagles to close out the second set with a 25-23 victory.
- Third Set
- David Galanes had three of the first four Cornerstone points as the Golden Eagles lead the Eagles early 4-3.
- The Golden Eagles have rallied off three straight points to extend their lead 7-4 thanks to kills by the Galanes brothers and Joshua Beaumont.
- Cornerstone has all the momentum as they have extended their lead 14-8 after multiple kills by Andrew Galanes.
- Cornerstone has used an 8-2 run to make it a 22-10 Golden Eagle lead as Joshua Beaumont and Andrew Galanes had kills for Cornerstone.
- Cornerstone would win set three 25-12.
- Fourth Set
- Cornerstone jumped out to the 4-2 lead thanks to kills by Brunno Peres and big solo block by Andrew Galanes.
- David Galanes had back-to-back kills for the Golden Eagles as they are leading 7-5 early in set four.
- Judson has used a 6-4 run to tie the game 11-11 as both teams have been spot on in attacking in the fourth set.
- It has continued to be back-and-forth as both Cornerstone and Judson have battled in the fourth set with Cornerstone leading 17-16.
- Judson has scored three-straight to tie the game 20-20 late in the fourth set taking advantage of the Cornerstone errors.
- Cornerstone finished the set strong taking advantage of the Judson errors to win the set 25-22 and game in four sets.
