Indiana Tech wins the battle at the net to take down Men’s Volleyball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles returned to WHAC play looking to upset the 13th ranked team in the land but lost the battle at the net to fall in four sets against Indiana Tech. CU lost the block battle, 13-7.5 as they fell 23-25, 13-25, 25-23, 23-25 to drop to 15-7, 7-6 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone has another tough test tomorrow as they host (9) Lourdes starting at 1 p.m. 
 
Game Recap – #13 Indiana Tech – 3 Cornerstone – 1 (25-23, 25-13, 22-25, 25-23)
 
Set One:
  • Cornerstone got off to a hot start in set one as Brunno Peres led the match off with back-to-back kills. 
  • Indiana Tech would bounce right back and take a 14-10 lead behind a 3-0 run that saw a block from Raekwon Rodgers. 
  • Joshua Beaumont and Andrew Galanes capped off a Golden Eagle 4-0 run later in the set that tied the two sides at 15. 
  • The blocks continued for CU as Joshua Beaumont was involved in two more, once with Patrick Voloch and once with Brunno Peres to put the Golden Eagles back on top. Andrew Galanes added a service ace to make it 21-18 Golden Eagles and force a Warrior timeout. 
  • After the timeout, Indiana Tech would battle back to tie the set at 21. 
  • The Warriors continued their fight back as a Daynte Stewart service ace gave them set point, 24-23. CU would use their final timeout at this point. 
  • After the timeout, Indiana Tech recorded a block to take set one, 25-23. 
Set Two:
  • Neither team could get a lead in set two as both teams kept earning side out until Mason Milan of Indiana Tech recorded a service ace to put the Warriors on top 11-9. This served as the first two point or larger lead of the set. 
  • Indiana Tech would add to their lead with a 4-0 run to force a Cornerstone timeout. The Warriors saw a pair of kills and a block from Raekwon Rogers and Brandon Jones in the run. 
  • Cornerstone used their second timeout trailing 21-12. 
  • Indiana Tech took set two 25-13 on yet another block from Mason Milan and Logan Gamero. 
Set Three:
  • Indiana Tech took an early lead in set three, with the block continuing to dominate. Brandon Jones sent one back to put the Warriors on top 6-3. 
  • A kill from David Galanes and a IIT ballhandling error got CU within one.  
  • The Warriors recorded a service ace in a 3-0 run to regain a four-point edge at 10-6 and force the first CU timeout. 
  • Cornerstone would battle back in set three as an Andrew Galanes service ace tied things at 13. 
  • Brunno Peres added a service ace to take a 15-14 lead. 
  • After the service aces, the service error would cost the Golden Eagles with two of them allowing Indiana Tech to regain the lead. 
  • A pair of kills from Andrew Galanes tied the set back up at 21 all. 
  • Cornerstone continued a run for four straight points, capped off by a Cade Meza service ace to lead 23-21 and force an Indiana Tech timeout. 
  • CU was able to stay alive and secure set three after a block from Brunno Peres, Patrick Voloch, and Joshua Beaumont and an attack error from Indiana Tech as Cornerstone won 25-22.
Set Four: 
  • Cornerstone took the first two points of set four with kills from Andrew Galanes and Landon Waltz
  • With the set tied at seven, the Warriors would go on a 4-1 run to lead 11-8. 
  • Back-to-back kills from Mason Milan forced a CU timeout as IIT led 14-10. 
  • Indiana Tech would take complete command with a 5-1 run to increase their advantage to 19-11. 
  • Cornerstone would nearly battle all the way back in set four, but the deficit was too much to overcome as Indiana Tech took the set 25-23 on a kill from Daynte Stewart. 
 
By the Numbers 
15 – Andrew Galanes led the Golden Eagles with 15 kills. 
6 – Joshua Beaumont recorded a season high six blocks in the loss. 
.200 – Both teams hit under .200 on the day as Indiana Tech was at .169 and Cornerstone was at .100. 
 
What's Next? 
Cornerstone stays home tomorrow as they take on (9) Lourdes starting at 1 p.m. for another WHAC match.
