Softball struggles at the plate as they lose both games to (RV) Madonna to open WHAC play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Softball welcomed (RV) Madonna to Grand Rapids to open up WHAC play for the season. It was a tough day for Cornerstone hitters as they fall in the first game 6-0 as the Madonna pitcher threw a perfect game. They would then fall in the second game 13-3 as Cornerstone would struggle from the plate, totaling just five-hits on the day. Sam Timmer highlighted the day in the second game with a double off the left field wall as the Golden Eagles scrapped around some singles. Cornersone falls to 6-10, 0-2 on the young season. Cornerstone's game tomorrow has been moved to Tuesday, March 28 for a home matchup against Cleary starting at 3 p.m.

  • Madonna has made quick work of the Cornerstone bats as they have not gotten a hit through the first three innings as Mikayla Meade has settled in nicely since the first inning. Madonna still leads 1-0.
  • Meade was cruising along before a two-out triple started a rally for the Crusaders as they would get two more hits to score two extra runs to extend their lead 3-0 after the top of the fifth.
  • It was all Madonna from start to finish in this game as Maeson Schlaud throws a perfect game against Cornerstone, as they win 6-0 in game one.

Cornerstone threatened in the bottom half of the inning as Mackenzie Nagelhout reached on a two-out single and advanced to second on a stolen base but got stuck there as Madonna pitched around the trouble.

  • Cornerstone threatened in the bottom of the fourth, as with two-outs Cornerstone would load the bases after a hit batter and two-walks as the Crusaders get out of the jam with a flyout to center.
  • It looked like a quick inning for the Golden Eagles, but the Madonna would commit two straight fielding errors to give Cornerstone runners on first and third. A double steal attempt would score the first run of the game for the Golden Eagles thanks to a throwing error by the Madonna catcher, making it a 7-1 Madonna lead.
