SYLVANIA, Ohio – The dynamic pitching and hitting duo of
Maddy Chatman and
Mikayla Meade recorded huge performances as Cornerstone increased the win streak to four in a row with a sweep of Lourdes. CU took game one 4-2 in nine innings and then took game two 10-6 to move to 10-10 on the year and 4-2 in WHAC play. CU will continue the road trip at Siena Heights tomorrow as they try to get games in before weather hits.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 4 Lourdes – 2 (Nine Innings)
- Battling some rainy weather, both Cornerstone and Lourdes would see pitching dominate throughout game one.
- A total of just four hits occurred in the first six innings of play. Mackenzie Nagelhout and Maddy Chapman recorded the two hits that were Cornerstone's in those six innings.
- Mikayla Meade started for CU and went the first six innings and struck out six in the scoreless game.
- In the seventh, the Golden Eagles broke the score first. Sydney Carr doubled to lead-off the inning and later the pinch runner Shylin Robirds scored on a Moriah Sprague groundout that also saw a Lourdes error.
- Meade looked to close the game but a Lourdes double to start the inning would bring Alyssa Braam in to attempt to close things out.
- Lourdes was able to record a two out single to tie the game at one and force extra innings.
- In the ninth, CU regained the lead. Molly Poole highlighted a three-run inning with a two-run home run. Maddy Chatman then added a solo HR of her own to bring the score to 4-1.
- Lourdes again was able to battle back scoring a run after a walk and two singles. Mikayla Meade re-entered the game to get the final two outs and secure a 4-2 Golden Eagle victory.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 10 Lourdes - 6
- After no score through the first six innings of game one, the two teams combined for nine runs in the first inning of game one.
- Moriah Sprague and Bailey Anson each recorded RBI hits while Maddy Chatman and Paige Liddell had RBI bases loaded walks in the middle of those hits to take an early 5-0 lead.
- McKena Gilde started game two and with a 5-0 lead was unable to hold it as the Gray Wolves offense woke up. Lourdes scored four runs on two RBI hits, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch to score four and get the game within one at 5-4.
- In the second inning, Lourdes was able to tie the game on a single from Maddie Darrah.
- Maddy Chatman stayed hot and was able to give CU the lead back on an RBI single in the top of the third to make it 6-5.
- Going into the third, Sydney Tilma came in and pitched for the Golden Eagles and was able to slow down the Lourdes offense to keep the CU 6-5 advantage.
- Both teams would record a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth inning, the first of game two.
- Cornerstone added an insurance run in the fifth to make it 7-5 after two throwing errors by Lourdes. Maddy Chatman scored after hitting a single and then advancing all the way around the bases on an error from the LU shortstop and third baseman.
- Another Cornerstone run came home as Morgan Jenkins led-off the sixth with a walk and later scored on an RBI double from Moriah Sprague to make It 8-5.
- With two outs, Maddy Chatman made it a perfect 3-3 in game two with a two RBI single that blew the game open at 10-5.
- Lourdes finally was able to find a pitch to hit of Sydney Tilma, as Emily Wallace hit a solo bomb in the bottom of sixth to cut their deficit to four.
- That would be all Lourdes would get though as Mikayla Meade's busy day continued as she closed out game two to secure the 10-6 victory for CU.

Maddy Chatman went 5-7 with five RBI in today's double-header to lead the CU offense.
