MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Golden Eagles finished the weekend on a high note with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) sweep of Bethel. It was a much-needed victory for the Golden Eagles as this win improves them to 14-5 (7-5) on the season.
David Galanes continued his successful weekend with another impressive game of 14 kills to lead the Golden Eagles in the sweep. There is no break for Cornerstone as they are right back in action on Monday, March 6 as they travel to Quincy University for a 5 p.m. game.
Game Highlights: Cornerstone – 3 Bethel – 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21)
- First Set
- Bethel and Cornerstone battled to start off the game as it is tied early 5-5 thanks to a kill by Landon Waltz.
- Bethel has taken advantage of the early Cornerstone errors and added a service ace to take the early 10-8 lead.
- The Golden Eagles have battled back to tie the game at 16-16 thanks to a kill by Landon Waltz and a service ace by Max Hernandez.
- Bethel used a 5-3 run to take the 21-19 lead by Cornerstone used the Bethel errors to tie the game at 21-21 forcing a Pilot timeout.
- The Golden Eagles rallied around Landon Waltz as he got back-to-back kills to get Cornerstone within one of the first set victory. Brunno Peres got the next kill to giver Cornerstone the 25-22 set one victory.
- Second Set
- The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead that forced Bethel to use an early timeout thanks to a kill by Brunno Peres and a service ace by Patrick Voloch.
- It has continued to be all Cornerstone early as they are leading 10-3 thanks to a block by Landon Waltz and Joshua Beaumont.
- David Galanes ends the mini-Bethel run with back-to-back kills to extend Cornerstone's lead 15-9 halfway through the second set.
- Bethel used a 6-3 run to make it a 18-15 Cornerstone lead thanks to offense clicking for the Pilots getting multiple kills.
- Bethel and Cornerstone continued to trade points as the Golden Eagles are closing in on a set to win as they lead 22-18 after a kill by David Galanes.
- Cornerstone would rally together to close out the second set strong winning 25-20 thanks to a Cade Meza service ace and two kills by Brunno Peres.
- Third Set
- Just like the second set, Cornerstone jumped out to an early 5-1 lead as they continued to put the pressure on the Pilots. David Galanes and Brunno Peres had kills for the Golden Eagles.
- A Landon Waltz kill forced Bethel to use one of their timeouts as the Golden Eagles are leading 8-4 in the third set.
- The Pilots have closed the gap on the Golden Eagle led taking advantage of the Golden Eagle errors to make it a 13-10 Cornerstone lead.
- Bethel forces the Golden Eagles to use a timeout as they have tied the game 18-18 late in the third set thanks to kills by their big hitters.
- A strong finish to the third set by the Golden Eagles gave them the 25-21 victory and 3-0 sweep of Bethel! David Galanes got the finishing kill for the Golden Eagles.
