The bats power Softball in a sweep of Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Softball traveled to Rochester to make up a double-header that was originally scheduled for April 5. Cornerstone dominated all day as they swept Rochester by run rule both games as they won game one 8-0 and game two 10-1. The offense was on fire for the day as the Golden Eagles totaled 18 runs in 11 innings on 24 hits with Jolie Groeneveld, Mackenzie Nagelhout, and Moriah Sprague all totaling four hits between the two games to lead the way. Cornerstone moves to 16-16, 10-8 in the WHAC for the season as they will travel to UM-Dearborn on Friday, April 21 for a double-header starting at 3 p.m.
 
Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 8 Rochester – 0 F/6
  • Cornerstone had something going in the top of the first as they loaded the bases with one-out as Mackenzie Nagelhout got the first hit of the game for the Golden Eagles. Rochester worked around the trouble to keep Cornerstone off the board. Mikayla Meade got the start for Cornerstone as she worked around a one-out error to keep the game scoreless after the first inning.
  • With two-outs, Moriah Sprague got the rally started with a double that was followed by Maddy Chatman bringing her home on an error. Sydney Carr would follow that up with a single through the right side to give Cornerstone the 2-0 lead. Bailey Anson would deliver the big hit with a double into left field to score two to make it 4-0 after the top of the third. Meade continues her dominant pitching as she has not allowed a hit through three.
  • Mikayla Meade gives up her first hit of the game but doesn't allow any more damage as she keeps Cornerstone in the lead after the fifth inning.
  • Mackenzie Nagelhout would bring home Abbey Brower in the top of the sixth with one-out single and would later steal second to get into scoring position. Delaney Wilson brought her home with a single to right field to make it 6-0 as Cornerstone continues to threaten. Moriah Sprague would then hit a triple to score another run and would later score on groundout to make it 8-0 after the top of the sixth.
  • Mikayla Meade would then get the next three batters to flyout to left, center, and right field to end the game as Cornerstone wins 8-0 in game one.
 
Game Two Highlights – Cornerstone – 10 Rochester – 1 F/5
  • Jolie Groeneveld led off the game with a double into left field to get Cornerstone rolling. Mackenzie Nagelhout would bring her home with a single to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead after two batters. Two batters later, Moriah Sprague got the big hit with a two-run HR to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead after the top of the first. McKenna Gilde got the start for Cornerstone and worked a quick 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.
  • A two-out rally started by Morgan Jenkins resulted in another Cornerstone run as Jolie Groeneveld would bring Jenkins home with a single to make it 4-0 after the top of the second.
  • After a double by Bailey Anson, Cornerstone had second and third with one-out as Jolie Groeneveld stepped up to the plate. She would bring home a run with a single as that would be her third hit of the game. Kaitlyn Cain would come through with a single as well and a sac fly next at bat would give Cornerstone the 7-0 lead. With two-outs, Moriah Sprague hit her second HR of the game to make it 9-0 after the top of the fourth.
  • Rochester got back-to-back hits to start the bottom of the fourth and would score one run on an error as Gilde would work around the trouble limiting it to a run.
  • After a leadoff walk by Emma Tornes, Maddy Chatman would bring her home with a double to make it 10-1 after the top of the fifth. McKenna Gilde would work around two errors to give Cornerstone the game two victory and sweep.
