Aquinas silences the bats as Softball loses 4-0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was the Strike Out Cancer makeup game from earlier in the week with Aquinas that saw the Saints quiet the bats of Cornerstone winning 4-0. Aquinas just slowly chipped away scoring one-run in four straight innings while keeping Cornerstone off the basepaths and in trouble. Cornerstone will now look to regroup as they host Lawrence Tech tomorrow, Saturday, April 8 for a double-header starting at 1 p.m.

Game Highlights – Aquinas – 4 Cornerstone - 0
  • The game resumed in the top of the second as Alyssa Braam would work around a leadoff error to keep AQ off the board. Aquinas sets down Cornerstone quietly in the bottom of the second to keep the game 0-0.
  • Aquinas led off the inning with sharp triple down the right field line and would later cash in the run with a groundout to score the first run of the game. Cornerstone had something going in the bottom of the third as Delaney Wilson hit a one-out double but was stranded there as AQ worked around the trouble.
  • Aquinas reached on an infield single with two-outs. She would later steal second and score on the same play thanks to two errors by the Cornerstone fielders. Extending their lead 2-0 after the top of the fourth.
  • The Saints continue to put the pressure on the Golden Eagles as they capitalized on a leadoff double, extending their lead 3-0 after the top of the fifth inning. Welcome back Jolie Groeneveld, after getting hit by the pitch, she instantly steals seconds to help give Cornerstone a runner in scoring position. The Golden Eagles would strand runners on second and third as AQ would keep a 3-0 lead after the fifth inning.
  • Aquinas instantly answered after getting out of the jam in the top of the fifth, tacking on another run to extend their lead 4-0 after the top of the sixth.
  • Aquinas would keep the Cornerstone bats at bay as they win the makeup game from earlier in the week 4-0.
