Jolie Groeneveld powers Softball in a split against Lawrence Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It finally felt like spring in Grand Rapids as softball hosted Lawrence Tech for a pair of games before Easter. Cornerstone won the first game thanks to Jolie Groeneveld having all three hits and four runs scored for the 4-3 victory. Lawrence Tech bounced back using a big fourth inning in game two that Cornerstone couldn't come back from to lose 5-3, splitting the games. Cornerstone has a short break as they will be right back in action on Monday, April 10 for a rescheduled double-header against Siena Heights.

Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 4 Lawrence Tech - 3
  • Mikayla Meade got the start for the Golden Eagles in game one and worked a quick first inning. Mackenzie Nagelhout worked a one-out walk and later stole second but was stuck there as LTU keeps Cornerstone off the board after the end of the first inning.
  • The pitching has kept the bats at bay as the game is tied 0-0 as both teams have just one hit through the first three innings.
  • Lawrence Tech got a big one-out double to get something going. She would later advance to third on a groundout and score on a passed ball to score the first run of the game. LTU leads 1-0 after the top of the fourth. Lawrence Tech found themselves in trouble as they walked back-to-back batters as Jolie Groeneveld follows that up with a long three-run HR over the left-center fence to give Cornerstone the 3-1 lead after the fourth inning.
  • Lawrence Tech got to Meade in the top of the sixth as a double into the right center gap scored one to make it a 3-2 Cornerstone lead. Two batters later with two-outs, a single through the left side tied the game 3-3 as the Blue Devils found timely hitting to make it a new ballgame.
  • Jolie Groeneveld again comes up huge for the Golden Eagles as she hits her second HR of the game to give Cornerstone the 4-3 lead after the sixth inning. She has all three hits and all four runs for the Golden Eagles.
  • Alyssa Braam shuts the door for the Golden Eagles as Jolie Groeneveld powered Cornerstone past Lawrence Tech 4-3 for the game one victory.

Game Two Highlights – Lawrence Tech – 5 Cornerstone - 3
  • McKenna Gilde got the start in game two and worked a quick 1-2-3 inning to get Cornerstone off the field. Cornerstone had back-to-back two-out walks but couldn't get the runners home as the game remains scoreless at the end of the first.
  • Delaney Wilson and Mackenzie Nagelhout started off the inning with back-to-back singles as Jolie Groeneveld would bring in a run with an RBI groundout to give Cornerstone the 1-0 lead after the third inning.
  • Lawrence Tech answered quickly after losing after the third, the Blue Devils used three straight hits to tie the game 1-1. A double-steal and a slide under the tag gave LTU a 2-1 lead and then was followed up with a long double off the left-field wall to make it 3-1 with no outs in the inning. One more run would score on a sac fly as LTU uses a big top of the fourth to take the 4-1 lead.
  • Sam Timmer gets her first career HR as a Golden Eagle with a two-out shot over the left field fence to cut the LTU lead in half 4-2 after the end of the fourth.
  • Cornerstone uses timely hitting and a sac fly by Alyssa Braam to cut into the LTU as they down 4-3 after the end of the fifth inning.
