Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles were on the road for the second straight time to start their season and tied against Spring Arbor 1-1. Last year's goal leader Tyler Cortsange picked off right where he left off scoring his first goal of the season on a PK to give Cornerstone an early 1-0 lead. Late in the second half, Spring Arbor would answer with a goal of their own to make it a 1-1 tie. With the tie, CU moved to 1-0-1 on the season.
The Defense of the Golden Eagles
Through the first two games of the year for the Golden Eagles,
Roberto Gutierrez has allowed just one goal in his 165 minutes played on the year. Gutierrez has 12 saves on the year bringing his save percentage up to 92% through the first two games. The defense has been key to a good start for the Golden Eagles, making it hard for the opposing teams to get anything going on offense. Look for them to slow down the offense of Saint Xavier.
Looking at Saint Xavier
Saint Xavier has gotten off to a good start facing off against three tough teams. The Cougars sit at 1-0-2 on the year with a 1-1 tie against the #3 team in the nation, the University of Rio Grande. The Cougars are averaging 1.6 goals a game through their first three games and are led by Senior Fernando Barragan who has two goals on the season. It will be a tight game on Wednesday between the Cougars and Golden Eagles as both teams look to win game number two.
