GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone kicked off WHAC play with a 2-0 loss to Lourdes. Lourdes was the aggressors from start to finish as they scored one goal each half of the match. The Golden Eagles struggled to get anything going on the offensive end as they move to 4-2 (0-1) on the season. Cornerstone will remain at home as they take on Siena Heights on Wednesday, September 27 starting at 4:30 p.m.
Game Recap: Lourdes – 2 Cornerstone - 0
First Half
- The Gray Wolves got off to a quick start as a shot was saved by Morgan Scholten in the 2nd minute.
- Just like that in the 7th minute, Keira Boskovich found the back of the net to give Lourdes the early 1-0 lead.
- The first shot of the game came off the foot of Gracie Gortmaker but was saved by the Gray Wolves goalie in the 10th minute.
- Cornerstone had such a great opportunity in the 24th minute as two shots were saved by the Lourdes goalie back-to-back, keeping the Golden Eagles off the board.
- Cornerstone caught a break in the 40th minute as the shot from Lourdes nails the top crossbar and sails out.
- Cornerstone had an opportunity in the 42nd minute off a corner kick but the defense of Lourdes stopped the Golden Eagle opportunity.
- Lourdes heads into halftime leading Cornerstone 1-0.
Second Half
- Cornerstone came out as the aggressors to start the second half with a corner kick in the 47th minute.
- Right after the corner kick, Lourdes ran down the field and found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 match in the 48th minute.
- Morgan Scholten had back-to-back nice saves for the Golden Eagles in the 57th minute.
- Gracie Gortmaker had a shot on goal in the 69th minute but missed just right as the Gray Wolves maintain a 2-0 lead.
- Cornerstone has been aggressive as the clock winds down as shots by Chloe Dood and Gracie Gortmaker were just off the mark in the 84th minute.
- Lourdes played around with the ball and played keep away as they would eventually win 2-0.
