ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – There have been no easy games for the women's volleyball team this season as they escape Rochester with a five set victory. It was not pretty on both sides for attacking as they both hit in the .100's but the Golden Eagles found a way to win.
Aubrey Lenz led the way with 48 assists as there were four players with 10+ kills for the Golden Eagles with
Emmalee Murphy leading the way with 18. Cornerstone is now 8-9 on the season as they will take on Concordia on Friday, September 29 for poster night.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Rochester – 2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-14, 22-25, 15-9)
First Set – Rochester – 25 Cornerstone - 23
- The Golden Eagles got off to a great start in the first set, going up 8-3 thanks to two service aces by Kylie Andras and a few Warrior errors.
- Kills by Hannah Giere and Jada Thomas has given the Golden Eagles a 11-6 lead in the first set.
- Rochester has gone on a 6-1 run to tie the match 12-12, taking advantage of the Cornerstone errors.
- The Golden Eagles would respond nicely as kills by Hannah Giere and Eliza Thelen has given the Golden Eagles a 17-14 lead.
- Warriors continue to take advantage of the Cornerstone errors as the match is tied 20-20 late in the first set.
- The Warriors would finish the first set strong winning it 25-23 as the Golden Eagles hit .182 in the first set.
Second Set – Cornerstone – 25 Rochester - 17
- Just like the first set, the Golden Eagles started off hot as they lead 7-3 thanks to kills by Emmalee Murphy and multiple errors from the Warriors.
- Just like the Warriors in the first set, they have battled back and cut the Golden Eagle lead 10-9 thanks to a few more Cornerstone errors.
- Cornerstone would respond with four straight points to extend their lead 14-9 thanks to multiple kills from Emmalee Murphy.
- Aubrey Lenz adds a kill of her own to extend the Cornerstone lead 20-15 late in the second set.
- The Golden Eagles would finish off the set strong and win it 25-17 thanks to a few kills from Eliza Thelen.
Third Set – Cornerstone – 25 Rochester - 14
- It has been a close start in the third set with Cornerstone leading 6-4 after multiple kills from Hannah Giere.
- Cornerstone has continued to extend their lead as it is now 13-7 thanks to a service ace from Emma Whitley.
- Kylie Barron and Hannah Giere forced Rochester to use one of their timeouts as the Golden Eagles continue to lead 18-10.
- Hannah Giere has had a great third set as she has had five kills in this set as Cornerstone leads 22-11.
- One more kill from Hannah Giere as the Golden Eagles would win set three 25-14
Fourth Set – Rochester – 25 Cornerstone - 22
- Rochester jumped out to an early 4-2 lead with Kylie Barron having a kill for Cornerstone.
- Alli Pickard gives Cornerstone their first lead of the fourth set with a service ace to make it 5-4 early in the fourth set.
- It continued to be a back-and-forth battle in the fourth set as the match is tied 12-12 after a kill from Emmalee Murphy.
- Cornerstone has started to extend their lead further in the fourth set as two kills from Kylie Barron makes it a 17-14 lead.
- Rochester has scored three straight points to force Cornerstone to use a timeout as the Golden Eagles lead 19-17.
- The Golden Eagles have struggled hitting down the stretch as the Warriors have taken a 21-20 lead late in the fourth set.
- The Warriors would use their momentum to close out the fourth set victorious 25-22.
Fifth Set – Cornerstone – 15 Rochester - 9
- A kill from Kylie Barron and Emmalee Murphy have given Cornerstone an early 3-1 lead in the fifth set.
- A four-point rally from the Golden Eagles makes it 7-2 after multiple errors from the Warriors.
- A kill by Hannah Giere makes it a 10-5 Cornerstone lead late in the fifth set.
- Rochester cut into the Cornerstone lead to make it 10-9, but the Golden Eagles would respond with a four straight point rally to force Rochester to use a timeout as it is 14-9 Cornerstone.
- Kylie Barron gets the game winning kill as Cornerstone leaves Rochester with a five set victory.
