ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Eagles opened the 2023-24 season well as the women finished sixth behind the transfer
Francesca Bontomasi and the men finished ninth behind the familiar faces of
Hunter Haldaman and
Elijah Heerema. Cornerstone got a solid taste of the WHAC as well at the Warrior Classic and will next compete on October 21 in an event they host at Station 300 in Grandville.
Men's Results:
In the first event of the year, Cornerstone saw a familiar face lead the way as
Hunter Haldaman finished 15
th in the tournament with two games of 233 pins or higher and a total score of 820 pins through four games.
Elijah Heerema also had a strong performance with a 701 through four games, ending his day with a 205.
Cornerstone entered baker play with 3,403 pins knocked down and sat in sixth place. Baker play is where CU struggled recording a 709, 676, 717, and 648. CU ended with a total score of 6153 to finish ninth in the tournament overall.
Women's Results:
It was the graduate transfer from Siena Heights that led the Golden Eagle women.
Francesca Bontomasi finished seventh individually with 732 pins, including a 219 in her final game to get CU off to a great start.
Nicole Will also had a strong day finishing top 20 overall with a 662 and single game best of 174. Cornerstone was balanced all around in individual play as
Chloe Crick and
Ryleigh Jordan rounded out the top four within the top 35 competitors.
Cornerstone kept their strong play up in the baker rounds going 670, 687, 593, 632 to finish sixth overall with 5775 pins. CU finished just shy of Aquinas in fifth place with 5861 pins.
What's Next?
Cornerstone is off for nearly a month before hosting the CU Bowling Tournament at Station 300 in Grandville on October 21.
