Megan Lenhart won't ever forget as women's volleyball gets the 3-0 sweep over Lawrence Tech to give Lenhart her 100
th career win. It was an overall dominant performance from the Golden Eagles as the Blue Devils struggled to hit from the field with Cornerstone taking advantage of those errors.
Emmalee Murphy led the way for the Golden Eagles with 14 kills, as they now move to 4-3 (1-0) on the season. It will be a busy weekend for women's volleyball as they will play in the AQ/CU tournament, starting off against MVNU and St. Francis (Ill.) On Friday, September 8 starting at 3 and 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Lawrence Tech – 0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-10)
First Set – Cornerstone – 25 Lawrence Tech - 15
- Cornerstone got off to a hot start thanks to errors by the Blue Devils, giving the Golden Eagles an early 4-0 lead.
- Another quick rally by the Golden Eagles forced Lawrence Tech to use their first timeout as Jada Thomas and Emmalee Murphy had kills making it a 7-1 Cornerstone advantage.
- Lawrence Tech used a little run of their own to make it a 12-8 game.
- Cornerstone responded swiftly with kills by Hannah Giere and Eliza Thelen, making it a 15-9 Golden Eagle advantage.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone late in the first set as kills by Emmalee Murphy and Kylie Barron have given the Golden Eagles a 20-11 lead.
- Emmalee Murphy put the first set away with a kill through the blockers. Cornerstone wins set one 25-15.
Second Set – Cornerstone – 25 Lawrence Tech - 18
- It was tight match to begin the second set as the Golden Eagles led the Blue Devils 5-4 after the service ace from Alli Pickard.
- Lawrence Tech and Cornerstone continued to battle back and forth, but a little run from the Blue Devils gave them a 11-8 lead thanks to big blocks from their defenders.
- Julianna Brower kicks off the comeback run with a service ace as a kill by Hannah Giere makes it a 13-12 Lawrence Tech lead.
- Another block and an error from the Golden Eagles, gives Lawrence Tech a 15-12 lead as Cornerstone had to use their first timeout.
- A kill by Jada Thomas and Kylie Barron ties the match 16-16 as the Golden Eagles have gone on a 4-1 run.
- Cornerstone continued their stretch of good volleyball, forcing Lawrence Tech to use their first timeout as another kill by Kylie Barron makes it a 18-16 Golden Eagle lead.
- The dynamic duo of Emmalee Murphy and Kylie Barron have continued to run strong as they forced Lawrence Tech to use their final timeout as Cornerstone leads 22-17.
- Cornerstone would finish off the Blue Devils thanks to back-to-back kills by Hannah Giere, winning set two 25-18.
Third Set – Cornerstone – 25 – Lawrence Tech - 10
- Lawrence Tech came out hot to start the third set as they took a 4-0 lead thanks to a few errors by the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone stormed back, thanks to you know who in Kylie Barron and Emmalee Murphy to give the Golden Eagles a 6-5 advantage.
- A service ace by Emmalee Murphy and plenty of attack errors from the Blue Devils forces a timeout as Cornerstone leads 12-7 in set three.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone as Kylie Barron and Hannah Giere continue to rack up kills as the Golden Eagles lead 19-7.
- Cornerstone finished out the set strong thanks to a great rally performances from Macy Ward and big kills from Hannah Giere as the Golden Eagles win 25-10
