GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Basketballs win streak has now reached five-straight games with an 85-64 victory over Aquinas. The Golden Eagles played an all-around game holding the Saints to 64 points on 39.7% shooting while Cornerstone also recorded a season high 10 blocks in the win. Cornerstone shot 52.5% from the field that was highlighted by
Luke Rowlinson's game high 21 points on five made threes.
Toby Woolcock had another solid performance with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assist while holding Aquinas's best player to four points. Men's Basketball moves to 10-6 (6-4) on the season as they travel to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, January 13 to finish the first half of conference play.
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 85 Aquinas - 64
- First Half
- Luke Rowlinson got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles, nailing a three pointer that was eventually capped off with an Eli Steffen layup to give Cornerstone an 8-2 lead to open the game.
- The Golden Eagles used an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 18-8 that forced Aquinas to use a timeout. Cory Ainsworth and Toby Woolcock had multiple baskets during the stretch.
- Another 7-0 run by the Golden Eagles found themselves leading 25-11, highlighted by a Toby Woolcock three.
- Aquinas started to get back into the game, going on a 9-2 run to cut Cornerstones lead 27-20, with five-minutes remaining in the first half.
- A three by Aquinas cuts Cornerstones lead to six, 31-25 with just under three minutes remaining.
- Cornerstone closed the half on 7-2 run thanks to baskets from Cory Ainsworth to go into the half leading 38-27.
- Second Half
- Cornerstone opened the half on a 9-2 run that was started by a Jack Joldersma layup, highlighted by a Toby Woolcock dunk, and ended by a Luke Rowlinson three to give Cornerstone a 47-29 lead.
- Aquinas started to slowly chip away at the Golden Eagle lead as Cornerstone now leads 47-37 with 12:33 remaining in the second half.
- Blake Stewart ended the Cornerstone drought with a wing three. Cory Ainsworth next possession would grab the offensive rebound and dunk it home to make it a 52-40 Cornerstone lead.
- Toby Woolcock nailed his second three of the game that gave Cornerstone a 60-46 lead.
- Luke Rowlinson makes two straight threes off the pass of Toby Woolcock that gave the Golden Eagles a 70-52 lead with five minutes remaining in the game.
- One more for good measure, Luke Rowlinson makes his fifth three of the game that would empty the benches for both teams as the Golden Eagles would go on to win 85-64.
