GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Basketball returned home to no easy task, taking on #RV Madonna, yet came out with a victory 86-76. It got physical at times with three technicals being issued between the two teams. Cornerstone met the challenge that was at hand for them and never looked back, reaching a lead as high as 19 points in the upset victory.
Luke Rowlinson led the way for Cornerstone with 20 points as
Cory Ainsworth (17/12) and
Mason Brooks (17) were right behind him in scoring. The win moves Cornerstone to 12-7 (8-5) on the year as they host Indiana Tech on Saturday, January 27.
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 86 #RV Madonna - 76
- First Half
- Madonna opened the game on an 8-2 run thanks to two threes from Brendan Young, three minutes into the game.
- The Crusaders have continued to score to start the game as after a double technical on both sides, Madonna still leads 14-7.
- Kayden Bird makes a corner three that cuts the Madonna lead to three, 17-14 with 12:50 remaining in the half.
- Halfway through the first half, Madonna leads the Golden Eagles 21-20 in a physical game.
- Blake Stewart continues his strong first half with another layup, this one gave Cornerstone the 24-23 lead with 7:50 to go in the half.
- The Golden Eagles have used a 6-2 run to extend their lead 30-25 after a Mason Brooks made three.
- Luke Rowlinson caps off a 7-2 run by scoring five straight points that gave Cornerstone a 37-29 lead with 2:40 remaining in the half.
- Toby Woolcock gets the steal and then throws one down on the offensive side as the Golden Eagles head into halftime leading 39-33.
- Second Half
- It was all Cornerstone to start the second half, opening on a 9-0 run to extend their lead 48-33. Luke Rowlinson has five of the points during the run.
- The Golden Eagles continued to be the aggressors to start the second half as they lead 54-37 five minutes into the second half.
- Kayden Bird drills a three off the pass of Andy Mora as the Golden Eagles lead big, 59-40.
- Halfway through the second half, Cornerstone leads 63-48 as Madonna has slowly chipped away at the Golden Eagle lead.
- Mason Brooks drills another three and Cory Ainsworth goes to work down low as the 5-0 run extends Cornerstones lead 70-55 with 7:47 remaining.
- Madonna used an 11-2 run to make it a 72-66 game with 3:30 remaining as the defensive pressure by the Crusaders has ramped up.
- Luke Rowlinson drills a big corner three off the offensive rebound. That three gave Cornerstone a 77-66 lead with two minutes remaining in the game.
- The Golden Eagles iced the game away at the free throw line, beating the Crusaders 86-76.
