GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Women's Basketball celebrated lone senior Maddison Fulks and gave #23 Indiana Tech an upset scare in a 58-48 loss. Cornerstone led for half the game against Indiana Tech before they went on a third quarter run that the Golden Eagles could not recover from. It was a defensive battle for both teams as neither team shot above 35% for the game. Maddison Fulks led the way for women's basketball with 15 points as Cornerstone falls to 10-9 (8-6) on the season as they travel to Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday, January 31.

• First Quarter
  • Stephanie Ainsworth got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles after a high-low pass from Mackenzie Stien.
  • Jaylee Long made back-to-back threes for the Golden Eagles that gave Cornerstone an 8-4 lead with six minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • The defense of both teams has held solid through the first quarter as Cornerstone continues to lead 8-6 with 2:30 remaining in the first.
  • Megan Bennett hits a jumper as Cornerstone leads 10-8 after the end of the first quarter.

 

• Second Quarter
  • Maddison Fulks hits the first field goal for the Golden Eagles in the second quarter with a pullup jumper as Cornerstone continues to lead 13-9.
  • Indiana Tech has scored two quick baskets to make it a 15-14 game.
  • Olivia Kubik makes a deep three for Cornerstone to make it 18-14 with three minutes remaining.
  • Indiana Tech hits their first three of the game to take a 19-18 lead over Cornerstone with 30 seconds remaining. Maddison Fulks hits a pullup jumper next possession to give Cornerstone a 20-19 lead headed into halftime.
  • Indiana Tech is shooting 21.9% from the field as Cornerstone is shooting 29.6% in this defensive dual.

 

• Third Quarter
  • Indiana Tech opened the third quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 23-20 lead over the Golden Eagles. Maddison Fulks ended the scoring drought for Cornerstone with a nice floater.
  • Indiana Tech went on a 7-0 that forced Cornerstone to call a timeout as they have extended their lead 30-22 with 5:57 to go in the third quarter.
  • Gracie Gortmaker completes the three-point play as the Warriors continue to lead 32-25 with four minutes remaining in the third.
  • Maddison Fulks makes a pair of free throws that cuts into the Warrior lead, 36-30.
  • Maddison Fulks drives and makes a layup right before the buzzer sounds as Cornerstone trails 36-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

 

• Fourth Quarter
  • Mackenzie Stien nails an elbow jumper to get the scoring started for Cornerstone to open the fourth quarter.
  • Indiana Tech hits a late shot clock three that saw their lead grow 43-36 with seven minutes to go in the fourth.
  • The Golden Eagles were forced to call their final timeout as Indiana tech has made two more threes to extend their lead 49-36.
  • Another three pointer for Indiana Tech saw their lead grow to 52-37. After a technical by the Warriors, Olivia Kubik makes a pair of free throws to make it 52-39 with 1:34 remaining.
  • After making a pair of free throws and causing an Indiana Tech turnover, Olivia Kubik drills a three to make it a 55-46 game with 28 seconds remaining in the fourth.
  • Indiana Tech would ice the game away at the free throw line winning 58-48.
