LANSING, Mich. – Women's Basketball opened the New Year right with a 63-45 victory over Cleary.
Olivia Kubik picked up right where she left off scoring a game high 20 points, with 18 of those coming in the first half as
Stephanie Ainsworth recorded another double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Was good to see
Maddison Fulks back on the floor as she chipped in 11. Cornerstone is now 7-5 (5-2) on the year as they head to Siena Heights on Saturday, January 6 for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 63 Cleary - 43
- First Quarter
- The Golden Eagles open the game on an 8-2 run thanks to threes from Olivia Kubik and Jaylee Long.
- Olivia Kubik makes her second three of the game as Maddison Fulks follows that up with a jumper to give Cornerstone the 13-3 lead through the first five minutes of the quarter.
- Emma Costen drives and makes a nice layup as Cornerstone continued to have a big lead over Cleary 17-5.
- Cleary finished the final two minutes outscoring the Golden Eagles 3-0 as Cornerstone leads 17-8 after the end of the first quarter.
- Second Quarter
- Cleary has continued to keep the Golden Eagles scoreless as they have opened the second quarter on a 4-0 run to make it a 17-12 game through the first two minutes of the second.
- Cornerstone would respond with a 7-0 run to extend their lead 24-12 as Olivia Kubik scored and assisted on all seven points during the three-minute run.
- Right out of the media timeout, Oliva Kubik scored five-straight points as she has extended the run to 12-straight points for the Golden Eagles to make it 29-12 with just over four minutes remaining in the second.
- Gracie Gortmaker drives and finds a wide-open Stephanie Ainsworth to extend their run to 16-0 as the lead is now 33-12.
- Cleary ends the second quarter on a 6-2 run as Cornerstone heads into halftime with a 35-18 lead. Olivia Kubik has a game high 18 points at the half.
- Third Quarter
- Through the first three minutes of the third, Cleary has scored the only two-points as the Golden Eagles have yet to find a basket.
- Maddison Fulks made back-to-back baskets for the Golden Eagles for the first points of the quarter as Cornerstone continued to lead 39-20.
- Gracie Gortmaker scores four straight points for Cornerstone to stop the Cleary run as they continue to lead 43-26.
- Cleary closes the quarter on a 5-0 run after an Olvia Kubik layup as the Golden Eagles lead 51-35 after the end of three.
- Fourth Quarter
- Gracie Gortmaker makes a three to end a two-minute scoring drought for the Golden Eagles as Maddison Fulks follows that up with a three of her own to make it a 59-38 Cornerstone lead.
- Cleary continues to find easy points at the free throw line as the Golden Eagles have had struggles not fouling the Cougar players.
- The Cougars completed the three-point play as the Golden Eagles lead is now 61-45 with just under three minutes remaining.
- Laura Innerebner makes a pair of free throws as the Golden Eagles start the new year victorious 63-45 over Cleary.
