Road woes continue as women's basketball falls to Siena Heights 78-58

ADRIAN, Mich. – The road woes continue for women's basketball as they fall to Siena Heights 78-58 to move to 2-6 on the road this season. Siena Heights had a lead the entire game against the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone did make it a tight game cutting Siena Heights lead to two, multiple times but the Saints were able to break it open in the fourth quarter. Stephanie Ainsworth and Maddison Fulks led the way for Cornerstone, both scoring 15 points as they fall to 7-6 (5-3) on the season. Cornerstone returns home to face off against Rochester on Wednesday, January 10 for a tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
 
 
Game Highlights – Siena Heights – 78 Cornerstone - 58
 
  • First Quarter
    • Siena Heights opened the game in a tough full court press that led to them scoring the first six points of the game before Maddison Fulks would make a three making it 6-3 after the first two minutes of the game.
    • Stephanie Ainsworth makes her second layup of the game as Siena Heights continues to lead 13-9.
    • Jaylee Long scores five straight points for Cornerstone cut Siena Heights lead to three, 17-14 with just over two minutes remaining.
    • Gracie Gortmaker gets the steal and basket after missing a free throw to make it a 19-17 Saints lead.
    • After another Gracie Gortmaker layup, Siena Heights travels the length of the court and makes a three-point shot right before the buzzer as they lead 25-19 after the first quarter.
 
  • Second Quarter
    • Jaylee Long got the scoring started in the second quarter with her second three of the game off the pass from Stephanie Ainsworth.
    • Siena Heights used a 4-0 run to take a 31-25 lead over the Golden Eagles with five minutes to play in the second.
    • Maddison Fulks makes her third three of the game to bring the game withing three once again, 31-28.
    • Siena Heights has stopped the Golden Eagles on the offensive end as they have gone on an 8-0 run to take a 39-28 lead with a minute remaining in the second quarter.
    • Maddison Fulks beats the buzzer with a floater down the lane as the Saints lead the Golden Eagles 39-32 at the half.
 
  • Third Quarter
    • Siena Heights makes back-to-back threes to extend their lead in the third quarter 45-34 with 7:40 remaining in the third.
    • Cornerstone would respond with a 6-0 run of their own to cut into the Siena Heights lead 45-40 as Stephanie Ainsworth had four points in the run.
    • Every time Cornerstone gets close to Siena Heights, they would make a three to gain a little more breathing room as the Saints lead 55-46 with two minutes remaining in the third.
    • Siena Heights heads into the fourth quarter with a 57-46 lead over the Golden Eagles.
 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Cornerstone used a 5-0 run that was highlighted by made baskets from Stephanie Ainsworth and Maddison Fulks to cut into Siena Heights lead, 60-51.
    • Siena Heights would respond with a 9-0 run of their own to extend their lead 69-51 with five-minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
    • It continued to be all Siena Heights in the fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles have struggled to score as the Saints extend their lead 72-51.
    • Olivia Kubik completes the three-point play as Kylie Heck and Gracie Gortmaker makes some free throws as the Cornerstone would lose to Siena Heights 78-58.
