Men's Basketball returns home for two conference matchups

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Basketball is back in action riding a three-game winning streak as they return home for the first time in 2024 with matchups against #RV Rochester and Aquinas. Cornerstone hosts #RV Rochester on Wednesday, January 10 and then will host Aquinas on Saturday, January 13 to round out the week of games.

Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles were on the road for two games last week and came out with a win in both. Men's Basketball opened the week with a 73-40 victory over Cleary that saw Cornerstone start the game with a 29-0 lead. They would then finish the week with a 73-59 victory over Siena Heights capping off a 2-0 week. Cory Ainsworth led the way scoring 18.5 points and nine rebounds while Luke Rowlinson was right behind him with 17 points per-game.
 
 
Team Stats
Here are some of the team rankings where men's basketball stands in the WHAC conference. Cornerstone leads the WHAC in blocks with 5.1 per-game, in assists with 18.3 per-game, and total rebounds with 41.4 per-game. Cory Ainsworth leads the team in field goal percentage with 63.6% from the field while Kayden Bird leads the team in three-point percentage at 40.6% from behind the arc.
 
Looking at #RV Rochester
Rochester comes into the matchup against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 11-3, losing their last game to Indiana Tech. The Warriors are averaging 81 points per-game while shooting 46.1& from the field. Rochester is a tough physical team that holds opponents to 72.5 points per-game while averaging 8 steals. Warriors are led by sophomore guard Gunnar Walters who is averaging 16.2 points and 6.1 assists per-game while shooting 53.8% from the field and 51.9% from behind the arc. Transfer Brody Parker is averaging 11.5 points and Brandon Michrina is averaging 11.1 to round out the top scorers.
 
Looking at Aquinas
Aquinas comes into the week against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 8-6 as they take on Concordia for their first game of the week. It has been an up and down season so far for the Saints as they are riding a two-game win streak into this week of games. Aquinas is led by Donovan Brown-Boyd who is averaging 16.5 points on 46.8% from the field and 45.2% from behind the arc.
