GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles finished their regular season on top in a matchup against Madonna and celebrated their Senior Night. Cornerstone was able to finish regular season play on a high note as they tallied two second half goals to complete a comeback victory over the Crusaders.
Tori Woodwyk and
Arianna Brooks both found the back of the net in the match that led to the win. The Golden Eagles will begin WHAC tournament play on Wednesday, November 6 with their opponent yet to be determined.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Madonna – 1
First Half
- Morgan Scholten was the first keeper to be called on in the match just 17 seconds after the whistle blew, she made her first save of the night.
- The match began very physical as both teams knew what was on the line for the future of their seasons, but Hailey Stowe was just too aggressive as she earned the first yellow card of the match in the ninth minute.
- Tori Woodwyk nearly found the back of the net in the 23rd minute but her shot was just high.
- The Crusaders struck first in the match with a goal from Rhiannon Holmes in the 35th minute which gave Madonna the 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles headed into halftime with the score at 1-0 in favor of the Crusaders.
Second Half
- The second half started quickly again for Madonna as they struck the post in the 50th minute of the match but the score remained at 1-0.
- Tori Woodwyk leveled the game for the Golden Eagles in the 53rd minute off a smooth pass from Jada VanNoord deep in the Crusaders box.
- Only a few minutes later Arianna Brooks gave Cornerstone the lead after she faced a one-on-one with the keeper in the 60th minute of the match.
- Canses Gibson of Madonna broke free in the 62nd minute of the match but dragged her shot just left which kept the match at 2-1 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone protected their lead well throughout the rest of the match as they found the 2-1 victory over Madonna.

16 – There were 16 fouls in the match which was to be expected in a physical season deciding WHAC matchup.
