GOSHEN, Ind. – Women's Basketball could not keep up with the high-powered offense of Saint Francis. The Golden Eagles matchup against #22 Saint Francis did not go as planned as the ladies were defeated 72-48. The Cougars led by as much as 25 points in this matchup as Cornerstone shot 30.2%. The Golden Eagles move to 0-2 on the year and will be back in action right away on Saturday, November 2
nd at 3 p.m. against Goshen College.
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 48 #22 Saint Francis - 72
- First Quarter
- The first three minutes of the quarter belonged to the Cougars as they jumped out to an early 8-0 lead.
- Olivia Kubik drilled a deep three to get Cornerstone on the board, yet the Golden Eagles trailed 8-3 still.
- Cornerstone struggled to shoot in the first quarter as the Golden Eagles only shot at a 25% field goal rate early in the contest.
- Saint Francis knocked down back-to-back threes to close out the quarter and led the Golden Eagles 23-7.
- Second Quarter
- Olivia Kubik knocked down a pair of free throws early in the second quarter which gave her seven quick points, yet Cornerstone trailed 23-8.
- The Cougars offensive threat continued as they held a 19-point lead over the Golden Eagles halfway the second quarter.
- Saint Francis went on a six-point run thanks to their aggressive play near the rim as they led Cornerstone 33-12.
- Abi Bandstra had an instant impact off the bench with two consecutive buckets for the Golden Eagles with two minutes left in the half.
- Cornerstone trailed 35-20 after the second quarter and shot 25.9% in the first half compared to the Cougars 48.4%.
- Third Quarter
- The Golden Eagles started the third quarter quicker with buckets from Jaxi Long and Jaylee Long as they looked to cut into the lead of Saint Francis.
- The Cougars went on a nine-point run in the middle of the third quarter and gained a 25-point advantage at the five-minute mark.
- The Golden Eagles continued to struggle from the field and were only able to find six buckets through the first nine minutes of the third quarter.
- Olivia Kubik knocked down her second three of the game as she led the Golden Eagles with 10 points after three quarters.
- The score at the end of the third quarter 56-34 in favor of Saint Francis.
- Fourth Quarter
- Laura Innerebner started off the quarter with a deep three for the Golden Eagles as they trailed 56-37.
- Chloe McKnight of Saint Francis continued to shine in the game as she tallied her 17th point with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
- Maddie Schuur found a quick five point run for the Golden Eagles, yet they still found themselves down by 25 points.
- Laura Innerebner did not give up in this contest as she converted an and one three-point play late in the game.
- The Golden Eagles were defeated 72-48 in the game.
