Women’s Basketball falls to Goshen College as shooting woes continue

GOSHEN, Ind. – Women's Basketball faced another tough test on the road against Goshen College where the ladies' shots continued not to fall. Cornerstone was defeated 74-48 in a game where the Golden Eagles could not find an answer to the Maple Leaf's offense. The Golden Eagles move to 0-3 on the season and will be back in action next as they travel to Bethel on Wednesday, November 6th for a 6 p.m. gametime. 
 
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 48 Goshen College - 74
  • First Quarter
    • The Maple Leaf's started off the game fast as the Golden Eagles found themselves down 6-0 early with seven minutes left in the first quarter. 
    • The Golden Eagles turned the ball over in back-to-back possessions that led Goshen to another two quick buckets and gave them the 10-0 lead. 
    • Laura Innerebner opened the points for the Golden Eagles with a strong bucket at the rim.
    • The struggles continued for Cornerstone in the first quarter as they trailed Goshen 18-2 with five minutes left on the clock. 
    • Jaxi Long drilled a deep three point shot to pull Cornerstone closer to the Maple Leaf's with one minute left in the quarter. 
    • The Golden Eagles shot 13.3% in the first quarter as they trailed 22-5 to Goshen. 
  • Second Quarter
    • The Maple Leaf's continued their offensive success in the game as they tallied their 26th point which all came in the paint. 
    • The Golden Eagles trailed by 25 points in this game with seven minutes left in the second quarter. 
    • Two back-to-back buckets from Stephanie Ainsworth and Jaxi Long gave Cornerstone a mini run yet they trailed 30-9. 
    • Olivia Kubik sunk a three late in the second quarter to find her first bucket of the game with two minutes left on the clock. 
    • Cornerstone ended up behind 41-16 at the halftime buzzer. 
  • Third Quarter
    • Olivia Kubik tallied her 1000th career point after she made back-to-back free throws in the third quarter as Cornerstone continued to fight back in this matchup. 
    • The Maple Leaf's four-point run forced Cornerstone into their first timeout of the second half with the score at 49-24 with five minutes left in the third quarter. 
    • Jaxi Long continued her strong performance (11 points) with two more buckets in the third quarter with three minutes left on the clock. 
    • The Maple Leaf's began to lose control on the defensive end as Cornerstone tallied another four-point run which made the game 52-30 in favor of Goshen. 
    • The score at the end of the third quarter was 56-30 led by the Maple Leaf's.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Back and forth from both teams was the story of the fourth quarter early but Goshen still led by 22 points with seven minutes left. 
    • Syanne Mohamed continued her strong performance for Goshen as she scored her 18th point in the game to give the Maple Leaf's a 66-40 lead with five minutes left in the game.
    • Goshen's lead was too much for the Golden Eagles to overcome as they were defeated 74-48.   
By the Numbers
1000 – Olivia Kubik reached an impressive milestone as she scored her 1000th career point thanks to her 12-point performance.
29.7 – The Golden Eagles shot 29.7% from the field in the game.
51 – The Maple Leaf's tallied 51 total rebounds in the game compared to the Golden Eagles 20.
