LIVONIA, Mich. – Women's Volleyball took on Madonna in an important conference matchup. The Golden Eagles defeated the Crusaders 3-1 thanks to a strong performance from
Kylie Barron who tallied 18 kills in the match while hitting at .452%.
Aubrey Lenz also contributed a match high 44 assists in the contest. Women's Volleyball improves to 18-10 (10-6) on the year as they return home to host Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, November 6 at 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Madonna – 1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 25-14)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Madonna – 17
- Cornerstone started off the match quickly with a 3-0 run thanks to kills from Emmalee Murphy and Aubrey Johnson.
- Kylie Barron completed her first kill of the match that gave Cornerstone the early 5-2 lead.
- Madonna went on a three-attack error run which extended the lead for the Golden Eales to 10-3.
- The Crusaders went on a 3-0 run to make up a little ground on the Golden Eagles in the middle of the first set which made the score 14-9.
- Kills by Kylie Barron and Emmalee Murphy continued to be the story of the first set as they led late by 10 points.
- Cornerstone closed out the first set with a score of 25-17.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 23 Madonna – 25
- Cornerstone started the second set off strong again with a 4-0 lead thanks to two great assists from Aubrey Lenz.
- Three more attack errors tallied up for the Crusaders as Cornerstone led 8-2.
- Cornerstone continued their dominant defensive performance as they remained in the lead with the score at 13-7.
- The match went back and forth until the Crusaders tallied four points in a row thanks to two service aces and two kills to tie the set at 19-19.
- The battle continued in the set as it went to 22-22 down the stretch.
- Madonna earned two kills and a service ace when it mattered most and took the second set 25-23.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Madonna – 22
- It was a battle to open the third set as both teams gained three quick points as Kylie Barron found a kill in that span.
- The Crusaders put a sharp serve over the net that led to an ace and a Madonna 6-5 lead early in the set.
- Kylie Barron continued to dominate in the match and found a kill which made the match 11-11.
- Madonna bounced back with three straight points and led the match 14-12.
- Cornerstone then went on a run of their own and put four straight points up to regain the lead at 17-15 and forced the Crusaders into a timeout.
- Three Kylie Barron kills closed out the set for the Golden Eagles and gave them the 2-1 lead in the match.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 25 Madonna – 14
- Cornerstone started off the fourth set hot again on a 4-0 run behind Kylie Barron's two kills in the span.
- Cornerstone continued to cause havoc at the net and forced the Crusaders into an attack error as the Golden Eagles led 8-3.
- Gabby VerBerkmoes ruled the front line in the fourth set with a huge block and kill back-to-back to give Cornerstone the 12-6 lead.
- Emmalee Murphy found a groove in the fourth set as well with a couple kills that forced the Crusaders into a timeout with the score at 16-7.
- Kylie Barron tallied her 18th kill of the match to make the set 18-7.
- Cornerstone dominated the rest of the set with a scoreline of 25-14 which gave the Golden Eagles the 3-1 victory on the night.
