Women’s Basketball picks up their first victory of the season on the road against Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Women's Basketball traveled down to Indiana to take on Bethel in what felt like a must win for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone did just that as they dominated from start to finish in this matchup as they secured the 62-49 victory over the Pilots. The Golden Eagles shot 38.7% from the field which was the best we have seen so far this season. Olivia Kubik tallied 15 points and right behind her was Jaxi Long with 14 points that led Cornerstone to the win. The Golden Eagles will travel home for their next game against #3 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m.

Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 62 Bethel - 49
  • First Quarter
    • The game started quickly for the Golden Eagles as Mackenzie Goodwin found the first bucket of the game off an easy layup. 
    • Cornerstone continued the hot start as they led 9-0 early thanks to buckets from Laura Innerebner and Jaxi Long with five minutes left in the quarter.
    • Maddie Schuur sunk a three pointer for the Golden Eagles that gave them the 17-2 lead with three minutes left. 
    • The Pilots finished on a decent run with the score at 19-8 after the first quarter.  
  • Second Quarter
    • Bethel found a rhythm out of the quarter break and went on a four-point run that made the game 19-12. 
    • Laura Innerebner went on a four-point run of her own and made the game 23-12 with six minutes left on the clock. 
    • The Pilots took advantage of the double bonus in this quarter and tallied four quick free throws to cut the lead to seven points with four minutes left in the quarter. 
    • Olivia Kubik drilled a three late in the quarter for the Golden Eagles and the halftime score was 28-25. 
  • Third Quarter
    • Olivia Kubik picked up right where she left off from the first half and drained another three-point shot to start off the second half. 
    • Olivia Kubik poured in another four points on the Pilots that extended the Cornerstone lead to double digits with six minutes left in the quarter. 
    • The Pilots found back-to-back easy layups and used this to pull within six points of the Golden Eagles. 
    • Jaxi Long completed a three-point play with four mintes left in the quarter as Cornerstone led by nine points. 
    • Maddie Schuur knocked down a buzzer beater three point shot and extended the lead to 46-35 to close out the third quarter. 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Jaylee Long opened the fourth quarter with a three pointer for the Golden Eagles.
    • Both teams traded buckets for the next few minutes as the score was 55-41 with six minutes left in the game. 
    • Olivia Kubik completed another three-point play off an acrobatic finish for Cornerstone as she extended the lead to 15 points with four minutes left to play. 
    • The Golden Eagles closed out the game well and found their first victory of the season with a score of 62-49. 
By the Numbers 
15 – Olivia Kubik was the high scorer in the victory with 15 points. 
28 – Cornerstone scored 28 points in the paint compared to Bethel's 18 points. 
38.7 – The Golden Eagles shot 38.7% from the field ahead of the Pilots 28.3%.

Cornerstone will travel back home to host their second game of the season against #3 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m.
