#RV Siena Heights halts the offense of women's basketball in a 68-56 loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Women's Basketball returned home to face off against #RV Siena Heights and came away with a tough 68-56 loss. The Golden Eagles for the second straight game, struggled to get the offense going as they were held scoreless for the first eight-minutes. Cornerstone did make a comeback effort, getting within two in the fourth quarter before the Saints pulled away. Jaxi Long led the way for the Golden Eagles with a team high 15 points as Stephanie Ainsworth recorded another double-double with 10 points and rebounds. Women's Basketball is now 12-11 (10-8) on the year as they host Cleary on Wednesday, February 14.

  • First Quarter
    • Siena Heights opened the game on a four-minute 6-0 run.
    • The Golden Eagles have struggled to score to open the game as they have been held scoreless through the first five-minutes, down 6-0.
    • It continued to be all Siena Heights in the first quarter as they have extended their lead 12-0 through the first eight-minutes of the game.
    • Jaxi Long ended the scoring drought for the Golden Eagles with a wing three to make it 12-3.
    • Olivia Kubik followed with a three of her own to cap off a Golden Eagles 6-0 run.
    • Siena Heights beats the buzzer with a jumper to head into the second quarter leading 14-6.
 
  • Second Quarter
    • Siena Heights continues to lead Cornerstone as Maddison Fulks hits a floater to make it 16-8.
    • Heading into the media timeout, the Saints lead the Golden Eagles 19-10 as Stephanie Ainsworth makes a layup through contact.
    • Gracie Gortmaker runs the floor and makes the fast break layup out of the timeout to make it 19-12.
    • Laura Innerebner and Gracie Gortmaker score for the Golden Eagles as it is now 19-15 with two-minutes to go.
    • Siena Heights responded with an 8-0 run thanks to two threes from Jillian Gelso to make it a 27-15 game.
    • Stephanie Ainsworth makes a pair of free throws as Siena Heights heads into halftime leading 27-17.
 
  • Third Quarter
    • Jaylee Long makes a floater and Olivia Kubik follows with a three pointer to get the scoring started for the Golden Eagles.
    • Maddison Fulks drives and finishes with her left hand as the Saints continue to lead 36-27.
    • Mackenzie Stien ends the scoring drought for the Golden Eagles with a lefty layup to make it a 41-31 game.
    • Jaxi Long drives and makes the layup to cut into the Saints lead as they trail 45-36 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Jaylee Long drills the wing three out of the out of bounds play to get the scoring going in the fourth.
    • Jillian Gelso makes another three for the Saints to extend their lead 52-40 with seven-minutes to go in the fourth.
    • Cornerstone answered with a 4-0 run thanks to baskets from Stephanie Ainsworth and Gracie Gortmaker.
    • Siena Heights was forced to call a timeout after a Jaxi Long made three made it 53-47 with five-minutes to go.
    • Another 4-0 run by the Golden Eagles cut the game to two, 53-51 after baskets from Stephanie Ainsworth and Gracie Gortmaker.
    • Siena Heights responded with two-straight threes to reextend their lead 61-54 with two-minutes to go.
    • The Saints would go on to close the game at the free throw line, winning 68-56.
