Women's Basketball snaps losing skid with a 58-48 victory over Lawrence Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In their final home regular season game of the year, women's basketball gets the victory over Lawrence Tech 58-48. It was a defensive battle all game for both sides with the Golden Eagles pulling away in the third quarter and maintaining their lead from there. Olivia Kubik led the way scoring 15 points as Stephanie Ainsworth recorded another double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Cornerstone moves to 13-12 (11-9) on the season as they head to Aquinas on Wednesday, February 21 for a 5:30 p.m. showdown.

  • First Quarter
    • Olivia Kubik opened the game scoring four straight points for the Golden Eagles as they lead 4-0.
    • At the media timeout, the Golden Eagles lead 6-2 thanks to Olivia Kubik.
    • The Blue Devils tie the game 8-8 after a quick layup on the offensive end.
    • A Gracie Gortmaker layup and a Jaylee Long three forces Lawrence Tech to call a timeout as the Golden Eagles lead 13-8.
    • Stephanie Ainsworth cleans up the offensive board and makes the layup as the Golden Eagles lead 18-8 after the first quarter.
 
  • Second Quarter
    • Lawrence Tech opened the second quarter on a 4-0 run to cut into the Golden Eagles lead, 18-12.
    • Cornerstone answered with a 4-0 run of their own thanks to baskets from Jaylee Long and Jaxi Long to make it 22-12 with 5:30 remaining in the second.
    • A Gracie Gortmaker layup sends the game into the media timeout with Cornerstone leading 24-12.
    • Lawrence Tech has used another 4-0 run to bring the game within 10, 26-16.
    • The Blue Devils finished the final two-minutes of the half scoring four more points as the Golden Eagles lead 26-20 at the halfway point.
 
  • Third Quarter
    • Lawrence Tech and Cornerstone opened the second half trading baskets as the Golden Eagles continue to lead 30-24.
    • Lawrence Tech hits their first three of the game to make it a three-point game, 32-29 with seven-minutes to go.
    • Gracie Gortmaker finishes through the contact to give Cornerstone a 41-33 lead, scoring five straight points.
    • A 5-0 run by the Blue Devils makes it a 43-38 game with two-minutes to go.
    • Headed into the final quarter, the Golden Eagles lead 43-39.
 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Cornerstone and Lawrence Tech traded baskets to open the fourth as Cornerstone continues to lead 45-42.
    • A 4-0 run highlighted by Stephanie Ainsworth free throws, extends the Golden Eagles lead 49-44 with seven-minutes to go.
    • Olivia Kubik nails a deep three for the Golden Eagles that forces Lawrence Tech to call a timeout as they lead 52-44 with three-minutes to go.
    • Stephanie Ainsworth hits a big jumper for Cornerstone as they continue to hold onto their eight-point lead, 54-46 with 1:30 to go.
    • The Golden Eagles would the ice the game away at the free throw line, winning 58-48.
