ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Men's Basketball ended the regular season winning 11 games in a row, with the final one being a 100-74 victory over Rochester. It is the second straight game the Golden Eagles have scored 100 points, this was an impressive one at Rochester. Five players scored in double-figures with
Cory Ainsworth leading the way with 22 points and eight rebounds. The Golden Eagles will host the first round of the WHAC Tournament on Thursday, February 29 at 7:30 p.m. Who they play will be announced at a later time this weekend.
Game Highlights – Cornerstone –100 Rochester - 74
- First Half
- Rochester opened the game on a 5-2 run after a three pointer through the first two-minutes.
- The Warriors continued to put the pressure on the Golden Eagles as Cornerstone is forced to call a timeout as they are down 12-4 through the first five-minutes of the game.
- Blake Stewart makes a layup and Mason Brooks follows that with a three as the Golden Eagles are slowly chipping away at Rochester's lead.
- Cornerstone has their first lead of the game 23-18 thanks to an 11-0 run with three different Golden Eagles scoring. Mason Brooks had five during the run.
- Kayden Bird drills a three and Jack Joldersma finishes a layup through contact to give Cornerstone a 5-0 run that extended their lead 30-22 with six-minutes to go in first half.
- Things have started to become a little chippy as a technical foul from Rochester leads to a 9-0 run for Cornerstone to extend their lead 41-27 with just under three to go.
- Kayden Bird drills a three, seconds before the halftime buzzer as the Golden Eagles head into halftime with a big 50-34 lead.
- Second Half
- Cornerstone opened the second half on a 7-2 run thanks a deep three from Luke Rowlinson and easy baskets from Cory Ainsworth.
- The Golden Eagles continue to score at will as Toby Woolcock drills the three pointer. Right after the basket from Rochester, Cornerstone scores three seconds later as Cory Ainsworth completes the three-point play as they lead 65-40.
- Kayden Bird drills his fourth three of the game to give Cornerstone a 30 point, 70-40 lead with 14-minutes to go in the game.
- Eli Steffen makes back-to-back layups for Cornerstone as they continue to lead 75-43 with 11-minutes to go.
- A quick 7-0 run by the Warriors sees Cornerstone call a timeout to regroup as they continue to lead 75-50.
- Luke Rowlinson drills back-to-back threes and Toby Woolcock makes one of his own, all off the pass of Andy Mora, giving Cornerstone a 9-0 run to extend their lead 86-53.
- The Golden Eagles go deep into their bench with five-minutes to go as they lead 90-60.
- Cornerstone ends their regular season, winning their 11th game in a row 100-74. Luke Vanderwerff went to work scoring eight points in the final minutes.
