GOSHEN, Ind. – Cornerstone was back in action after an 11-day hiatus with a match against conference opponent Goshen. The Golden Eagles returned to their winning ways with a 3-0 sweep of the Maple Leafs 25-23, 25-20, 25-22. Both teams struggled in the hitting department with Cornerstone hitting a game high .36% while Goshen was in the red at -.23%.
Ernest Broaster led the way once again with an 11-kill night to help Cornerstone move to 11-2 (7-2) on the season. Volleyball returns home on Friday, March 22 to face off against these Goshen Maple Leafs for a rematch in the Mol Arena.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 3 Goshen – 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22)
- Set One
- The Golden Eagles came ready to play in this one, opening the match on a 4-0 run thanks to a service ace from Ernest Broaster.
- Goshen has responded nicely, going on a 5-2 run to make it a 6-5 Cornerstone advantage.
- A kill from Ernest Broaster makes it a 11-7 Cornerstone lead.
- Goshen once again responded nicely with a 7-2 run to make it a 14-13 match in set one.
- A kill by David Galanes put the Golden Eagles back up three, 18-15 late in the first set.
- Cornerstone is close to a set one victory after a Goshen attacking error makes it 21-16.
- Goshen makes a slight run, but Ernest Broaster put the final blow in set one, 25-23.
- Set Two
- Just like set one, Cornerstone jumped out to a 4-0 lead taking advantage of some attacking errors.
- A kill from Joshua Beaumont now makes it a 7-5 Golden Eagles lead after a push from Goshen.
- Cornerstone forced Goshen to call a timeout thanks to a 5-0 run highlighted by three service aces from Patrick Voloch gave CU a 12-6 lead.
- A couple more errors from the Maple Leafs sees Cornerstones lead grow 17-10 late in the second set.
- Ernest Broaster gets another kill, this one makes it 20-15.
- A block from Joshua Beaumont and Andrew Galanes and an attack error from Goshen gives Cornerstone the set two victory, 25-20.
- Set Three
- Cornerstone and Goshen traded points back-and-forth to open the third set as the match is tied 3-3.
- Goshen uses a little 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- The Maple Leafs force Cornerstone to call a timeout as they have grown their lead 10-5 early in the third set.
- After a kill from Brunno Peres and a block from Hubert Sliwinski and Patrick Voloch, the third set is now tied at 12 after a big 7-2 run from Cornerstone.
- Back-to-back service aces from Ernest Broaster gave Cornerstone a 16-14 advantage.
- Goshen would chase down the Golden Eagles, tying the match at 19 after a Cornerstone error.
- An Ernest Broaster kill knots the match up at 22 late in the third set.
- Cornerstone finishes the third set on a 3-0 run to win it 25-22 thanks to service aces from Patrick Voloch.
