GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Softball was right back in action with another nonconference double header, this one coming against Judson. The Golden Eagles went on to win game one 6-2 thanks to stellar pitching from
Allie Lubben and the offense of
Sydney Tilma and
Maddy Chatman. In game two, Cornerstone struck first, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Judson would battle back to tie the game, but a
Taylor Zwagerman homer proved to be the difference in game two as Cornerstone won 7-6. The Golden Eagles move to 11-9 on the year as they will host Lourdes next week, Friday, March 22 for a double header at 3:30 p.m.
Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 6 Judson – 2
- The first batter of the game for Judson reached on an error by the Golden Eagles and would advance to second on the play. Judson would then bring her home on another error by Cornerstone to make it a 1-0 game after the top of the first.
- Sydney Tilma opened the second inning with a homer over the left field fence to tie the game 1-1. Taylor Zwagerman would follow that up with a single. She would score on an RBI groundout from Maddy Chatman to give Cornerstone a 2-1 lead after the second inning.
- Allie Lubben settled in nicely after the first inning, throwing back-to-back scoreless innings.
- Maddy Chatman opened the fifth inning with a double to left field to get into scoring position. She would later score on a Paige Liddell RBI groundout to extend CU's lead 3-1.
- Alyssa Braam came into the game in the sixth inning. Judson had runners on first and third with two outs and would score one on an error from Cornerstone to make it 3-2.
- After back-to-back one out walks, Maddy Chatman would bring in one with a single up the middle to reextend CU's lead to two, 4-2. Paige Liddell would follow that with a bases clearing double to put up a crooked number as the Golden Eagles head into the final inning leading 6-2.
- Alyssa Braam would leave runners on first and third as the Golden Eagles win game one 6-2.
Game Two Highlights – Cornerstone – 7 Judson – 6
- Anna Griffioen opened the bottom of the first with a single to get the offense going in game two. After another hit, Sydney Tilma followed that up with an RBI single to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead. Mackenzie Nagelhout would bring everyone home with a triple to make it a 3-0 game. At the end of one, Cornerstone leads 4-0.
- Judson reached on an error to open the third inning. A few batters later, Judson would hit a two RBI double to make it 4-2. Two more batters and two more hits later, the game is tied 4-4 after the third inning.
- Taylor Zwagerman broke up the 4-4 tie with a solo homerun to left field to make it 5-4. Anna Griffioen would tack on one more with an RBI double to make it 6-4.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor Zwagerman would come through again with an RBI single to give Cornerstone a 7-4 lead heading into the sixth inning.
- Judson used some timely hitting in the sixth inning to score two runs, making it a 7-6 game.
- Allie Lubben would slam the door shut in game two, pitching a perfect seventh with a pair of strikeouts to give Cornerstone a 7-6 game two victory.
