GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles seem be struggling against their top conference competitors, as they fell to Indiana Tech last night, March 1, and are downed at home by Lourdes University today. The first set was rough for the Golden Eagles as they could not seem to get rolling and lose the first set 25-18. The second set was just as tough for Cornerstone, as they fell in the second 25-18. A tired Gray Wolves side sees their lead dwindle, as the Golden Eagles take the next two sets 25-23, and 25-23 respectively, but in the end, it was not enough as the Gray Wolves take the fifth set 15-10. Up next for the Golden Eagles, Cornerstone University will travel on Spring break to Surprise, Ariz. to take on #4 Ottawa University Arizona who are 11-1 overall, and 2-0 in conference play.

Set 1

• Ernest Broaster and Hubert Sliwinski highlight the beginning of the match with a couple kills of their own. The first set is led by Cornerstone 3-2.
• A kill from Andrew Galanes keeps the set tied 5-5.
• Ernest Broaster and Andrew Galanes grab a few kills of their own to keep the set tied 14-14.
• Two service aces by the Gray Wolves and four attack errors by the Golden Eagles give Lourdes a commanding lead 21-14 late in the first set.
• Ernest Broaster gets two more kills to keep Cornerstone in the first set. Lourdes still lead 24-18.
• The first set ends on a Cornerstone service error. The Gray Wolves take the first set 25-18.

Set 2

• Lourdes gets set two underway with a kill by Ben Palma. They lead 1-0.
• Hubert Sliwinski gets the first kill of the set for Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles trail 3-2.
• The Golden Eagles go on a 4-0 run to take the lead 7-6.
• The Gray Wolves go on their own 4-0 run to take back the lead 10-7.
• Ernest Broaster gets two kills and Hubert Sliwinski grabs another kill to tie the set 10-10.
• 3 more points from the Gray Wolves extend their lead in the second set 18-15.
• Lourdes keeps the runs coming, as they go on another 4-0 run to extend their lead even further. The score of set two is 22-15.
• Joshua Beaumont and Josiah Reif pair up on kills to keep Cornerstone in the second set. The Gray Wolves still lead 23-18.
• The Golden Eagles are not able to bring it back in set two, as Lourdes takes it 25-18.

Set 3

• Cornerstone starts off the third set with a 3-0 run.
• Josiah Reif nets a kill to keep the Golden Eagles ahead in the third set 6-4.
• Joshua Beaumont kills the ball into the court and gets his own service ae to extend Cornerstone's lead to 11-6.
• Landon Waltz gets a kill of his own. As the Golden Eagles lead 15-11.
• Lourdes goes on another 4-0 run to tie the third set back up 15-15.
• Ernest Broaster, with the assist by Patrick Voloch, ties the third set 19-19.
• Patrick Voloch adds his name to the list of attackers. As he kills the ball to tie the set once again 22-22.
• A Lourdes attack error and a kill from Ernest Broaster guide Cornerstone to set point 24-22.
• The block from Ernest Broaster and Joshua Beaumont see Cornerstone win the third set 25-23.

Set 4

• Lourdes gets the fourth set underway with two kills by Eduardo Ayala. The Gray Wolves lead 2-0.
• Ernest Broaster gets the first kill for Cornerstone of the fourth set. The Golden Eagles trail 2-1.
• The Gray Wolves go on a 3-0 run to extend their lead 6-3.
• Ernest Broaster gets two more kills to keep Cornerstone in the fourth set. They still are behind 10-8.
• Bruno Peres and Ernest Broaster get three more kills for Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles are still behind in the fourth set 13-11.
• Three Gray Wolves attack errors sees the set tie 17-17.
• A Lourdes attack error and a kill from Patrick Voloch see Cornerstone take the lead in the fourth set 19-18.
• Two attack errors by the Gray Wolves and a kill from Ernest Broaster see Cornerstone reach set point. The score of the fourth set is 24-22.
• Set four ends on a service error by Lourdes University. Cornerstone take the fourth set 25-23.

Set 5

• The fifth set begins with an attack error by the Golden Eagles, The Gray Wolves go up 1-0, but they follow with their own service error. The fifth set is tied 1-1.
• Ernest Broaster grabs the first kill of the fifth set, to tie the set again 2-2.
• Ernest Broaster gets his third and fourth kill of the set and grabs a service ace to put the golden Eagles in the lead 6-4.
• Bruno Peres gets the kill off of the block to keep Cornerstone in the lead 7-5.
• A couple errors from Cornerstone sees their lead diminish. The Gray Wolves take the lead 8-7 in the fifth set.
• A missed attack by Lourdes keeps the set close. Lourdes University still lead 9-8.
• A few more errors by the Golden Eagles force themselves into a timeout. The Gray Wolves lead 11-8.
• The timeout seems to have iced the server for Lourdes. Cornerstone still trail 11-9.
• A block error by the Golden Eagles sees the fifth set to match point. Lourdes lead 14-9.
• The ball seemed to still be in play as Ernest Broaster climbed the bleachers to reach the ball. However, the referees deemed it out of play and Lourdes take the final set 15-10.

 
By the Numbers:
.592/32 ­– Ernest Broaster led Cornerstone in total kills and was just one behind Lourdes' Eduardo Ayala. He hit .592 on the day, which was higher than the opposing side's outside hitter Eduardo Ayala.
55/3 – Patrick Voloch totaled 55 assists on the day and grabbed 3 kills of his own. Opposed to the Gray Wolves' setter's 56 assists and 0 kills.
