IUSB walks-off game two as Softball splits with the Titans

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Cornerstone traveled to South Bend, Indiana to take on Indiana University South Bend for a nonconference double header. A four-run inning in game one highlighted by doubles from Maddy Chatman and Delany Wilson provided all the runs the Golden Eagles needed in game one as they won 4-2. Cornerstone was just three outs away from a sweep of IUSB, put a five-run bottom of the seventh highlighted by a walk off three-run homerun saw softball fall in game two, 5-2. The Golden Eagles are now 14-10 on the season as they will travel to Lawrence Tech for a conference double-header starting at 1 p.m.

Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 4 IUSB – 2
  • Allie Lubben worked around a second and third jam in the bottom of the first to keep the game scoreless.
  • Maddy Chatman drove in the first run of the game with a double to the center fielder to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead. Delaney Wilson would follow that with a double of her own, scoring two to extend the Golden Eagle lead to 3-0. Cornerstone would add another run on an Anna Griffioen single to head into the bottom of the second with a 4-0 lead.
  • IUSB got on the board in the bottom of the third stringing together a pair of hits to make it a 4-2 game after the third inning.
  • The pitching of Cornerstone and IUSB has settled in nicely as the game remains 4-2 after the fifth inning.
  • The Golden Eagles had a second and third nobody out situation after a Moriah Sprague double, but the Golden Eagles were not able to score as a runner was thrown out at home to keep it a 4-2 game.
  • Grace Paling closes the door in the seventh inning to give Cornerstone a game one 4-2 victory.

Game Two Highlights – IUSB – 5 Cornerstone – 2
  • Cornerstone used a two-out rally in the top of the first to score the first run of the game thanks to a Dylan Holmes double. CU leads 1-0 after one.
  • Morgan Jenkins led off the third inning with a triple and would later score on a Jolie Groeneveld bunt single to make it a 2-0 Cornerstone advantage.
  • Alyssa Braam is through four innings of hitless softball as Cornerstone continues to lead 2-0.
  • Cornerstone is three outs away from a sweep as they head into the seventh inning with a 2-0 lead.
  • The Golden Eagles found some trouble in the bottom of the seventh as IUSB has runners on second and third with one out.
