SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Softball remained on the road as they traveled to Southfield, Mich. to take on Lawrence Tech. After jumping out to a 7-2 lead over the Blue Devils, Lawrence Tech responded with eight unanswered runs to take game one 10-7 over the Golden Eagles.
Anna Griffioen led the way in game one with five RBIs. In game two, Lawrence Tech took an early lead and kept the bats of Cornerstone down to complete the sweep by winning 5-3. Cornerstone returns home to face off Rochester Christian on Wednesday, April 3 for a double header starting at 3:30 p.m.
Game One Highlights – Lawrence Tech – 10 Cornerstone - 7
- Jolie Groeneveld singled in the top of the first and later would steal second to give Cornerstone a runner in scoring position. Moriah Sprague would bring her home on a single that gave CU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- After an error and a hit by pitch for Lawrence Tech, the Blue Devils would take a 2-1 lead on a bases clearing triple.
- Cornerstone had the bases loaded in the top of the second with one out as Anna Griffioen would clear the bases with a triple of her own to give Cornerstone a 4-2 lead. Jolie Groeneveld would bring her home on a sac fly as Cornerstone leads 5-2 after the top of the second.
- Alyssa Braam has settled in nicely since the first inning as Cornerstone continues to lead 5-2 after the third inning.
- Anna Griffioen would come through again for Cornerstone, this time a two RBI double to extend the Golden Eagle lead 7-2 after the top of the fourth inning.
- Lawrence Tech scored quickly in the bottom of the fourth as a two-run homerun makes it 7-4 with one out in the inning. After a few batters later, The Blue Devils has made it a one run game as it is now 7-6. Another error in the inning by the Golden Eagles leads to two more runs for Lawrence Tech as they now lead 8-7 over Cornerstone.
- Lawrence Tech added a run in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a double to extend their lead 9-7.
- The Blue Devils added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as they now lead 10-7 headed into the final inning of game one.
- Cornerstone goes down quietly in the top of the seventh as Lawrence Tech comes from behind to take game one 10-7.
Game Two Highlights – Lawrence Tech – 5 Cornerstone – 3
- McKenna Gilde opened the game striking out the side to keep the game scoreless after one inning.
- Lawrence Tech got on the board in the bottom of the second with a two out RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
- Alayna Meade opened the third inning with a double. Jolie Groeneveld brought her home with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game 1-1. Dylan Holmes would bring her home with a double to give Cornerstone a 2-1 lead.
- Back-to-back errors by the Golden Eagles gave Lawrence Tech a 3-2 lead as they took advantage of the extra outs. With two outs, the Blue Devils would add one more on a single to make it 4-2 after the fourth inning.
- Lawrence Tech added one more in the bottom of the fifth on a sac fly to make it 5-2.
- Cornerstone would add one more run in the top of the seventh but Lawrence Tech got out of the jam to complete the sweep, winning game two 5-3.
