Men's Volleyball's win streak ended by (13) Lourdes

SYLVANIA, Ohio. – The Golden Eagles traveled to Lourdes University to take on the #13 nationally and #1 in the WHAC Gray Wolves in another conference matchup. The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with the difference maker being a few Gray Wolves 3-0 runs that ultimately saw them to a set one victory 25-22. Set two stayed tight for a while. The set was tied eleven times until Lourdes was able to go on a 7-1 run to take the lead and end the set on a service ace 25-21. Set three would be the end of the road for the Golden Eagles Easter weekend road trip, as the Gray Wolves took set three 25-17 and swept Cornerstone. Up next for the Golden Eagles, Cornerstone University will take on cross-town rivals Aquinas College (3-17) in Cornerstone's Mol Arena on Tuesday April 2, at 7 p.m.

Set 1
  • The match begins with a Gray Wolves service error to give Cornerstone the lead 1-0.
  • Andrew Galanes gets the first kill of the match to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.
  • Hubert Sliwinski grabs a kill to keep Cornerstone in front 6-4.
  • The attack is good for Joshua Beaumont, as the Golden Eagles lead set one 10-8.
  • The Gray Wolves go on a 3-0 run to take the lead in set one 13-11.
  • Andrew Galanes sends the ball to the back corner to get another kill and keep set one close. The Golden Eagles trail 17-15.
  • Ernest Broaster grabs a kill from the backrow and the front row to keep Cornerstone in set one. Lourdes lead 23-20.
  • Andrew Galanes gets a kill off the block and keeps set one alive, as the Gray Wolves still hold the lead 24-21.

  • The second set gets underway with a Golden Eagles attack error and a Gray Wolves attack error to begin the set tied 1-1.

  • Andrew Galanes gets a kill to give Cornerstone more than a one point lead, 10-8.

  • David Galanes with the kill to put the Golden Eagles back up 16-15.
  • A Lourdes service ace gives them a two-point lead 18-16, forcing Cornerstone into a timeout.
  • Ernest Broaster, again from the backrow, adds a point for Cornerstone, but still trail 22-19
  • Three kills from Ernest Broaster in a row force the Gray Wolves into a timeout. Lourdes still lead set two 22-20.
  • Lourdes ends set two on a service ace. The Gray Wolves win set two 25-21.
Set 3
  • The Gray Wolves gets the third set going with a 6-2 run and stay up 8-3 thanks to a couple attack and service errors from the Golden Eagles.
  • David Galanes gets a kill to try and keep Cornerstone in the match, as the Golden Eagles trail 12-6.
  • A Lourdes service error gives the Golden Eagles a much-needed break. Cornerstone still are behind in set three 16-8.
  • Joshua Beaumont with another kill on the day to bring Cornerstone within seven points of the Gray Wolves who are still much ahead 16-9.
  • The block from the Gray Wolves sees them take a nine-point lead 19-10 late in the third set.
  • Ernest Broaster's service ace attempts to keep Cornerstone in the game. Lourdes still ahead 19-11.
  • A service error from Lourdes sees their lead drop to just six points 21-15.
  • The Gray Wolves service ace sees them to match point 24-17.
  • Nationally ranked #13 Lourdes take set three 25-17, sweeping the Golden Eagles in Sylvania, Ohio.
