GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles (16-3) faced up against cross-town rivals Aquinas College Saints (3-19) within the Mol Arena on the campus of Cornerstone University. It was a bit of a shaky start for the Golden Eagles in set one as Aquinas began the set with a comfortable 3-0 run that saw them take the lead early on 8-4, but the Golden Eagles were able to go on a 6-0 run themselves and saw it out to the end of set one 25-21. Bruno Peres came off the bench with a lot of energy to get two kills and a solo block in set two, as Cornerstone took set two comfortably 25-14. Set three was an Aquinas Saints show, as they were able to come back swinging and take set three 25-18. Set four looked like David Galanes owned it, as he led the set in six kills helping Cornerstone take set four 25-16. Up next for the Golden Eagles, Cornerstone University will travel to Whiting, Ind. to take on the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Waves (15-8) on Friday April 5, at 6 p.m.

Set 1

• The match begins with a Cornerstone service error to give the Saints the first point of the match 1-0.
• Joshua Beaumont gets the first Golden Eagles point of the night with a solo block to tie the set 1-1.
• Three points in a row for the Saints sees their lead extend 8-4 early in the first set.
• Cornerstone goes on a six-point run to take the lead in set one 12-9.
• Ernest Broaster gets the kill off the head of an Aquinas blocker to make the score 13-10 Golden Eagles.
• Another long rally ends Cornerstone's way. The Golden Eagles keep their lead 16-12.
• David Galanes grabs a kill to keep Cornerstone up by two points 18-16.
• Two service aces and a backrow attack from David Galanes puts them up 22-16 in the first set.

• Joshua Beaumont tips over the block to give Cornerstone a four-point lead 14-10.
• Bruno Peres subs in and immediately gets a solo block and yellow card. Cornerstone leads 16-11 in set two.
• Andrew Galanes and Hubert Sliwinski's block forces Aquinas into a timeout as the Golden Eagles continue to build their lead 19-11.

• Three more points from the Saints extend their lead to seven points 17-10.
• Hubert Sliwinski with the kill off the block to try and keep the Golden Eagles alive. Aquinas still lead set three 20-14.
• A 6-2 run for the Saints forces Cornerstone into a timeout as Aquinas lead set three 23-15.
• Ernest Broaster with another kill through the block attempts to keep set three going, as Cornerstone trail 23-17.

Set 4

• An Aquinas service error out of the game gives Cornerstone the first point of set four 1-0.
• A Hubert Sliwinski block gives Cornerstone the lead in set four 5-4.
• Three blocks go up from the Saints and each see a point added to the board, as Aquinas stays in the lead 8-6.
• An attacking error from the Saints ties the fourth set up 9-9.
• Ernest Broaster and David Galanes each grab a kill to give Cornerstone the lead 12-10.
• David Galanes gets a quick kill to take back the lead for Cornerstone 13-12.
• Two service aces in a row from Joshua Beaumont extend the Golden Eagle lead 15-12.
• The Golden Eagles go on a 7-0 run to continue to build their lead in set four. Cornerstone stay ahead 19-12.
• Hubert Sliwinski and David Galanes take advantage of the overpass and put another point away for Cornerstone who lead set four 21-14.
• Set four and the match ends on a kill from Joshua Beaumont. Cornerstone win 25-16.
