DAVENPORT, Fla. – Fresh off their off day, the Golden Eagles faced off against Grand View and Calumet. Grand View got the best of Cornerstone again, winning 8-2 thanks to an early power surge.
Ben Barnes was dealing early in game two with eight strikeouts through the first three innings, but Calumet exploded for an 11-run inning on their way to a 17-6 victory. Baseball will be back in action tomorrow against Dordt for a double header starting at 1:15 p.m.
Game One Highlights – Grand View – 8 Cornerstone - 2
- Corbin Westerkamp got the start for the Golden Eagles and worked a clean top of the first to the get the bats up to the plate.
- The Golden Eagles had some traffic on base paths but were not able to cash them in as the game remains scoreless after one inning.
- Grand View strikes first in this game with a bases clearing two out double to make it 3-0 in the top of the second.
- The Vikings added another in the third with a solo blast, making it 4-0. They would tack on another with a double steal to make it a 5-0 after the top of the third.
- Cornerstone hasn't had much going for them on the offensive end as Grand View uses a two out rally scoring two more to extend their lead 7-0 in the fifth inning.
- Matthew Kindley opened the bottom of the fifth just missing a homerun with a double off the right field fence. Andrew Eley would bring Kindley home with an RBI through the right side of the infield to make it 7-1.
- GV would bring in one more in the sixth on an error to make 8-1.
- Andrew Meny hit a long solo homerun over the left field fence to make it 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Grand View gets the best of Cornerstone 8-2.
Game Two Highlights – Calumet – 17 Cornerstone - 6
- Ben Barnes started on the mound to open the game and struck out the side in a clean top of the first.
- First pitch swinging, JC Salinas laces a stand up double to get the bottom of the first started but was later caught in a run down to end the inning.
- Barnes has set down six batters all via strikeout through the first two innings.
- Cornerstone strikes first in this game thanks to an RBI singled from Andrew Meny to take a 1-0 lead. Lucas Vega brings home another as the Golden Eagles lead 2-0 after the third.
- Calumet has exploded for 11 runs in the fourth inning. Taking advantage of five hit by pitches and capping it off with a homerun, taking an 11-2 advantage.
- JC Salinas hits his second double of the game, bringing home Ruiz to make it 11-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
- Calumet adds two more to their run total as they lead 13-3 in the fifth inning.
- Grant DeRose clears the bases with a double down the right field line, scoring two to make it 13-5. A double steal by Steve Hoeksema and Michael Ruiz makes it now an 13-6 game.
- Calumet takes advantage of a free base and tacks on another run to make it 14-6 on a sac fly.
- The Crimson Wave tack on another three runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead 17-6 and would eventually go on to beat the Golden Eagles.
