Pitching helps Softball to a double header sweep of Siena Heights

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles faced off against the Siena Heights Saints and came away with a double header sweep in their final home games of the regular season. Cornerstone won game one on a walkoff single by Anna Griffioen to win 4-3. In game two, Cornerstone used a three run first inning and never looked back as the pitching dominated to a 4-1 victory. Softball improves to 22-18 (10-8) on the year as they will hit the road to face off against UNOH on Friday, April 19 for a double header starting at 3:30 p.m.
 
Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 4 Siena Heights - 3
  • The Golden Eagles struck first in this game thanks to a Moriah Sprague single and a two-base error from the Saints to make it 1-0. Cornerstone would add one more on another error to make it 2-0 after the first inning.
  • Mackenzie Nagelhout drove in another run with single to make it 3-0 after the second inning.
  • McKenna Gilde has shut down the bats of Siena Heights as she is through four innings of scoreless pitching.
  • Siena Heights tied the game in the top of the fifth with a three-run homerun to make it 3-3.
  • Alexis Ashbay and Taylor Zwagerman singled for Cornerstone in the bottom of the sixth to make it first and third with one out. Siena Heights would get out of the jam to send the game into the seventh tied 3-3.
  • Mackenzie Nagelhout led off the bottom of the seventh with a single. Another single from Jolie Groeneveld and a bunt puts runners on second and third with one out. Anna Griffioen came through with the walk off single to give Cornerstone the 4-3 victory.
 
Game Two Highlights – Cornerstone – 4 Siena Heights - 1
  • Cornerstone got on the board first in the bottom of the first highlighted by Moriah Sprague's long two-run homerun. The Golden Eagles lead 3-0 after the first inning.
  • Concordia gets one back with an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-1 in the top of the third.
  • Alexis Ashbay would answer in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to make it 4-1 in the bottom of the third.
  • Alyssa Braam worked a quick top of the fifth as the Golden Eagles still lead 4-1.
  • The Golden Eagles left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. They lead 4-1 headed into the final inning.
  • Alyssa Braam shuts the door in the top of the seventh with a pair of strikeouts to win it 4-1.
