WHITING, Ind. – Men's Volleyball hit the road for their first match of a quick three match road trip and came away with a 3-1 victory over Calumet 25-16, 15-25, 25-19, and 25-21.
Ernest Broaster continued his impressive first season as a Golden Eagle with a match high 21 kills thanks to
Patrick Voloch's setting. The Golden Eagles improved to 17-3 on the year as they will travel to Chicago, Illinois for the SXU Tri Match with matches against Viterbo and (7) Saint Xavier at 2 and 4 p.m.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 3 Calumet – 1 (25-16, 15-25, 25-19, 25-21)
- Set One
- Cornerstone has opened the first set with a 5-0 run, thanks to a few aces from Patrick Voloch and a kill from Andrew Galanes.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone in set one as they now lead 10-0 after a couple more aces from Patrick Voloch and a kill from David Galanes.
- A kill from Ernest Broaster makes it 16-7 in the first set.
- Andrew Galanes gives Cornerstone 20 points in the first set as they are five points away from winning set one.
- Cornerstone wins the first set 25-16 thanks to a service error from Calumet.
- Set Two
- Calumet responded nicely in set two, taking an early 5-1 lead on four kills.
- It continued to be all Calumet early in the second set as they took an 11-5 lead on back-to-back blocks.
- Three straight points from Calumet sees them leading 21-12, just four points away from a second set victory.
- Calumet ended the second set with a bang, blocking the CU attacker to win 25-15 to tie the match 1-1.
- Set Three
- The third set starts with both Calumet and Cornerstone trading points as it is tied 4-4.
- Calumet has now used a 5-1 run to take a 9-5 lead over Cornerstone.
- Calumet forced Cornerstone to call a timeout as a 4-0 run makes it 15-10 halfway through the third set.
- Cornerstone comes out of the timeout, scoring four straight points to force Calumet into a timeout thanks to kills from David Galanes and Ernest Broaster
- The set is tied 19-19 late in the third set after a block from Hubert Sliwinski and Ernest Broaster.
- Cornerstone ends the third set on a 6-0 run to win it 25-19. Ernest Broaster had multiple kills and Kyi Jagorin added a service ace.
- Set Four
- Calumet opened the fourth set on a 5-2 run.
- Three straight points and back-to-back blocks from multiple Golden Eagles makes it 8-7 in the fourth set.
- A 6-1 run by the Golden Eagles sees them take a 12-10 lead thanks to another kill from Ernest Broaster.
- Joshua Beaumont adds a service ace after a David Galanes kill to make it a 17-14 Cornerstone lead.
- Ernest Broaster gives Cornerstone a 21-18 lead over Calumet as they are four points away from set four victory.
- David Galanes ends the fourth set with a kill to give Cornerstone the 25-21 set and match victory.
