HOWELL, Mich. – Cornerstone traveled to Cleary for another WHAC double header as Cleary would take game one 4-2 thanks to an early 4-0 jump on the Golden Eagles. In game two, pitchers shined as it remained scoreless until the eighth inning where
Morgan Jenkins singled home the winning run.
Alyssa Braam pitched all eight innings given up just three hits in game two. Softball moved to 15-15 (3-5) on the year as they are right back in action on Monday, April 8 for a double header against Rochester Christian starting at 4 p.m.
Game One Highlights – Cleary – 4 Cornerstone - 2
- The Golden Eagles left the bases loaded in the top of the second as Cleary worked around the jam.
- Cleary would score first in the bottom of the second, coming through with a one out double to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Cougars added a few more runs in the bottom of the third thanks a to a few hits and a Golden Eagle error. Cleary now leads 4-0 after three.
- Sydney Tilma opened the fourth inning with a double and would later come home on a single from Delaney Wilson to make it a 4-1 game.
- A two-out rally from the Golden Eagles sees them score another run thanks to back-to-back singles from Moriah Sprague and Sydney Tilma to make it 4-2 in the fifth.
- Cleary shut down the offense of the Golden Eagles on their way to a game one 4-2 victory.
Game Two Highlights – Cornerstone – 1 Cleary – 0 F/8
- The game remains scoreless through three innings as Alyssa Braam has kept the bats of Cleary silent.
- It continues to be a pitching duel through five innings of play as the game remains scoreless.
- Abbey Brower reaches base in the sixth and advances to second, but the Golden Eagles are unable to bring her home as the game remains scoreless.
- Cleary threatens in the bottom of the sixth with two hits, but Alyssa Braam limits the damage as the game heads into the final inning tied 0-0.
- Another 1-2-3 inning for Braam sends this game into extra innings tied 0-0.
- After two walks in the top of the eighth, Morgan Jenkins breaks the scoreless tie with an RBI single to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead.
- Alyssa Braam goes the distance, shutting down the Cleary hitters in the bottom of the eighth to win game two 1-0.
