LIMA, Ohio – Women's Volleyball was right back in action with a matchup against UNOH as they looked to rebound off last night's loss. Cornerstone took a 2-1 set advantage over UNOH but was not able to finish the Racers off as they won the next two sets to take it 3-2 over Cornerstone. In the three matches that have gone to five sets, the Golden Eagles have lost all three of them as this loss moves them to 7-5 (1-2) on the year. Women's Volleyball returns home next week to face off against Defiance on Friday, September 20.
Game Recap – UNOH – 3 Cornerstone – 2 (25-27, 25-12, 25-21, 15-25, 11-15)
First Set: UNOH – 27 Cornerstone – 25
- The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Racers thanks to a couple errors.
- UNOH has flipped the momentum to their side as a 5-1 run sees them take a 10-8 lead over Cornerstone.
- It continued to be all Racers in the first set as they lead 19-13 after a service ace.
- Cornerstone has found their stride late as they have used a 6-1 run to make it a 20-19 match late. The Golden Eagles had kills from Kylie Barron, Dyllan Hanna, and Emmalee Murphy.
- The Golden Eagle run continued as they lead 23-21 after a block and kill from Kylie Barron.
- UNOH would respond with a 3-1 run of their own to force extra points as it is tied 24-24.
- Emmalee Murphy records another kill to make it 25-24 as they are one point away from a set one comeback.
- UNOH finished the set on a 3-0 run to take it 27-25 thanks to a few Golden Eagle errors and a kill from Hannah Colquitt.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 UNOH – 12
- Just like the first set, Cornerstone has jumped out to a 3-1 lead after a kill from Kylie Barron.
- It has continued to be all Golden Eagles in the second set as they now lead 12-4 as they forced UNOH to call a timeout. Aubrey Lenz and Kylie Barron had kills while the Racers have struggled to attack.
- More errors by the Racers gave Cornerstone a 19-7 advantage in the second set.
- The Golden Eagles finished the second set with five kills to take it 25-12. Emmalee Murphy and Dyllan Hanna had multiple kills in the final five points.
Third Set:
Cornerstone – 25 UNOH – 21
- UNOH jumped out to a 4-2 lead after an error by the Golden Eagles
- UNOH continued to hold onto the lead as it is now 10-7.
- Cornerstone is forced to use one of their timeouts as they trail 13-9 in the third set.
- The Golden Eagles have rattled off five straight points to tie it 15-15 thanks to four kills during the run, three from Emmalee Murphy and one from Jada Thomas.
- The momentum continued to stay on the Golden Eagle side as they now lead 20-17 thanks to back-to-back kills from Jada Thomas.
- A kill from Dyllan Hanna and an error from UNOH make it's a 23-20 match late in the third set.
- Alison Pignataro ends the third set with a service ace to give Cornerstone the 25-21 win.
Fourth Set: UNOH – 25 Cornerstone – 15
- It was all UNOH to start the fourth set as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead.
- Cornerstone was forced to use on their timeouts early in the fourth set as they found themselves down 8-3.
- Another Cornerstone timeout used in the fourth set as they continued to trail 13-6.
- The Golden Eagles can't get anything going in the fourth set as they trail 20-9.
- A 5-0 run by Cornerstone gives them a little momentum as it is 20-14 after a kill from Gabby VerBerkmoes and Emmalee Murphy.
- UNOH forced a fifth set with a 25-15 set four victory over Cornerstone.
Fifth Set: UNOH – 15 Cornerstone – 11
- A kill from Jada Thomas and Dyllan Hanna gave Cornerstone an early 2-1 lead.
- UNOH would respond with three straight points to take a 4-2 lead.
- A 4-1 run by Cornerstone sees them retake the lead 6-5 thanks to an error by the Racers.
- A 6-2 run by UNOH has them ahead 11-8 as Cornerstone calls a timeout.
- UNOH takes the fifth set 15-11 thanks to multiple errors by the Golden Eagles.
