Women’s Soccer wins in dominant fashion to open conference play against Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich.  – The Golden Eagles won in dominant fashion thanks to a stellar performance from Tori Woodwyk who scored and assisted to help Cornerstone to the victory. The 2-0 victory gave Cornerstone their first win in WHAC conference play. The ladies will look to keep the ball rolling as they travel home for their second conference matchup of the season facing Indiana Tech on Saturday September 21st at 1p.m. 
 
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Concordia - 0
First Half
  • Cornerstone started off quickly with a shot from Karsyn Hostetler that was saved in the third minute of the match. 
  • Gracie Gortmaker continued the heavy pressure early with a shot that forced a save off the crossbar. 
  • The Golden eagles dominated the first 20 minutes of the match outshooting the Cardinals 10-0, but the match remained at 0-0.
  • The Cardinals had no answer for the Golden Eagles constant attack, yet the match still stayed at 0-0 in the 35th minute. 
  • Cornerstone tallied 19 shots in the first half, but Concordia keeper Hayley Jacobson made five crucial saves to keep the match scoreless.  
Second Half
  • Cornerstone's halftime talk worked well for Tori Woodwyk as she scored for the Golden Eagles within the first two minutes of the half. 
  • The Golden Eagles continued to push for another goal after they gained four quick corner kicks just 15 minutes into the second half.
  • Through 60 minutes of the match keeper Morgan Scholten still had not seen a shot come her way with the Golden Eagles in full control of the ball. 
  • Shelten Cruces cruised one past the keeper to give Cornerstone the 2-0 lead in the 87th minute. 
  • The Golden Eagles secured the dominant win thanks to a goal and assist from Tori Woodwyk
