GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Right back in action after a sweep last night, women's volleyball swept Lourdes 3-0 to finish their week of conference matches at 2-0. It was all Golden Eagles in this one as they held Lourdes to a negative hitting percentage of -.057 while hitting .364 themselves.
Aubrey Johnson recorded her second straight double/double as she led the way with 13 kills and 11 digs. Cornerstone is now 9-5 (3-2) on the year as they will face off against #12 Aquinas at AQ on Wednesday, September 25 for a start time of 7 p.m.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 3 Lourdes – 0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-11)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Lourdes - 7
- The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to back-to-back blocks from Kylie Barron.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone to start the first set as they lead 8-3 thanks to a kill from Emmalee Murphy and a service ace from Aubrey Johnson.
- Lourdes was forced to call a timeout as another Aubrey Johnson service ace made it 11-3.
- The Golden Eagles continued to put pressure on the Gray Wolves as they called their second timeout of the game as Cornerstone now leads 17-6 thanks to back-to-back kills from Emmalee Murphy.
- The Golden Eagles just allowed one more point in the set as they went on take set one 25-7 after an overpass kill from Gabby VerBerkmoes.
Second Set:
Cornerstone – 25 Lourdes - 20
- A service ace from Emma Whitley evens the set at twos to begin the second set.
- Lourdes holds an 8-6 advantage over Cornerstone after a block.
- Cornerstone used a 7-1 run to take a 13-9 lead over Lourdes thanks to errors from the Gray Wolves.
- Lourdes was forced to call a timeout as Cornerstone has extended their lead 16-11 after two kills from Aubrey Johnson.
- Cornerstone continued to hold onto their lead thanks to kills from Emmalee Murphy and Kylie Barron that made it 20-15.
- The Golden Eagles were forced to call a timeout as three straight points from Lourdes made it 20-18.
- After a block from Gabby VerBerkmoes and Emmalee Murphy, Lourdes was forced to call their final timeout as the Golden Eagles lead 23-20.
- Cornerstone wins set two 25-20 thanks to a service ace from Alli Pickard and a kill from Jada Thomas.
Third Set:
Cornerstone – 25 Lourdes - 11
- Cornerstone jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a kill from Jada Thomas and a service ace from Emma Whitley.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone as Lourdes was forced to a call a timeout as the Golden Eagles now lead 12-4 after kills from Kylie Barron and Aubrey Johnson.
- It was all Cornerstone still in third set as six straight points made it 18-4 late.
- Emma Whitcomb adds a service ace to the Golden Eagle lead as it is now 21-7.
- Cornerstone completed the sweep with a 25-11 set three victory.
