Men’s Soccer cruises past Michigan-Dearborn in a three-goal thriller

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  The Golden Eagles bounced back quickly with a favorable matchup against Michigan-Dearborn. The conference battle felt even at the half but three Cornerstone goals in the second half earned the Golden Eagles a well-deserved 3-0 victory. Tyler Corstange tallied the first two goals of the game one from the penalty spot and another from open play. The Golden Eagles head on the road for another conference matchup against Cleary on Saturday September 28th for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff and will be looking to build off their strong performance against Michigan-Dearborn.  

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Michigan-Dearborn - 0

First Half:
  • The match started off slow, but Cornerstone began to control most of the ball in the 15th minute, yet the game remained scoreless. 
  • The first yellow card of the match was given to Jeff Herrema in the 20th minute after a strong foul. 
  • Calvin Curtis nearly found the net on a cross in the 39th minute but the ball was just out of his reach and the match was kept at 0-0. 
  • Arthur Puppim looked to bend an incredible shot from outside the box but was just saved by the Wolverines in the 40thminute. 
  • The Halftime scored finished at 0-0 with both teams unable to find an advantage at the break. 
Second Half:
  • Calvin Curtis fancy footwork took on multiple defenders to earn a penalty for the Golden Eagles that was converted by Tyler Corstange in the 47th minute of the match which gave Cornerstone the 1-0 lead. 
  • The match began to get physical with Tyler Corstange who was given a yellow card along with the Wolverines Nicolas Pulcini. 
  • Cornerstone nearly doubled their lead with a shot from Dani Carrillo in the 73rd minute but was saved by Michigan-Dearborn. 
  • Tyler Corstange scored his second goal of the match for the Golden Eagles in the 82nd minute to give Cornerstone the 2-0 lead. 
  • Abbas Abbas of Michigan-Dearborn earned a red card late in the match after a heated foul.
  • Dani Carrillo capped off the night with a fantastic goal giving Cornerstone the 3-0 victory. 
By The Numbers
1 – Dani Carrillo scored his first goal of the season with less than a minute left on the clock. 
2 – Tyler Corstange tallied his fifth goal of the season with two in the match. 
3 – Cornerstone opponents have earned three red cards in the last two matches with one late red card coming from Michigan-Dearborn.
