GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles cruised past the Cougars in this all important WHAC matchup. Cornerstone defeated Cleary 4-0 in an all-around team effort victory which had four different goal scorers on the night, but
Alaina Kregel and
Gracie Gortmaker stepped up big with a goal and an assist to help Cornerstone to the win. The Golden Eagles next battle comes against another WHAC opponent facing Rochester Christian on Wednesday October 2
nd for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 4 Cleary - 0
First Half
- Cornerstone came out hot with a shot from Gracie Gortmaker that nearly found the back of the net in the second minute of the match but was just saved.
- Alaina Kregel scored in the 11th minute of the match with a deep shot outside the eighteen to give Cornerstone the early 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles offense moved fast with a goal from Gracie Gortmaker off a smooth pass from Alaina Kregel in the 21st minute of the match which doubled Cornerstone's lead.
- Taya Andrzejewski added her name to the scorers list in the 39th minute with a powerful low shot that cruised past the keeper after being deflected off the post which grew Cornerstones lead to 3-0.
- The halftime score remained 3-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
Second Half
- The second half started off with three quick corner kicks from the Golden Eagles, but the Cougars defense looked to straighten up fast as they trailed by three goals.
- The Cougars defense did not last long as Tori Woodwyk found the back of the net in the 57th minute of the match which extended the lead to 4-0.
- The match began to slow down as both teams looked to be satisfied with the inevitable result.
- The match score finished 4-0 giving Cornerstone another conference win and keeping their undefeated conference record alive (3-0-1).
