PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Women's Soccer traveled into Illinois to take on Trinity Christian for a nonconference matchup that ended in a 2-0 victory for the Trolls. The Trolls scored one in both halves as the offense of the Golden Eagles could not get going resulting in their first loss of the year. Cornerstone moves to 2-1-1 on the year as they will travel to #RV Bethel on Wednesday, September 11 for their final nonconference match of the year.
Game Recap – Trinity Christian – 2 Cornerstone – 0
First Half:
- In the second minute, Trinity Christian scored the first goal of the game on their first shot to take a 1-0 lead right out of the gate.
- The Golden Eagles would try and respond in the fourth minute with a corner kick but was stopped by the Troll defense.
- Trinity Christian continued to put the pressure on the Golden Eagles as back-to-back shots in the 10th and 11th minute was saved by Cornerstone goalie Morgan Scholten.
- Gracie Gortmaker had an opportunity in the 22nd minute but her shot was saved by the Trinity Christian keeper.
- Trinity Christian had a corner opportunity in the 28th minute but was stopped by the Golden Eagle defense.
- The Trolls had one last shot opportunity before the time expired, but it sailed right as Trinity Christian leads Cornerstone 1-0 at the half.
Second Half:
- Right out of the gate the Trolls were aggressive with a shot that was blocked by the Golden Eagle defender in the first minute of the second half.
- The Golden Eagles escaped a scary situation in which Trinity Christian had back-to-back shot attempts with one of them hitting off the cross bar in the 56th minute.
- The Golden Eagles had their first opportunity in the second half in the 60th minute as off a corner kick, shots from Karsyn Hostetler missed left with Emily Ake's hitting the cross bar. Trinity Christian remains in the lead 1-0.
- After another corner kick by Cornerstone, the shot from Alaina Kregel sails high in the 66th minute after another missed opportunity from the Golden Eagles.
- Trinity Christian strikes again in the 72nd minute as a shot from Hadley Vander Bent finds the back of the net to make it 2-0.
- Brooke Harmsen takes a shot in the 79th minute but misses wide.
- Trinity Christian defends their home terf with a 2-0 victory over Cornerstone.
