Women's Basketball falls on the road to Siena Heights 70-61

ADRIAN, Mich. – Women's Basketball traveled to Adrian, Michigan to take on Siena Heights for one last road game before returning home. The Golden Eagles fell in a tough battle against the Saints 70-61. Women's Basketball was held to just 20 points in the first half on 29.2% shooting but turned it around in the second, scoring 41 points behind Jaxi Long's team high 18 points. The Golden Eagles fall to 8-9 (7-2) on the year as they host Concordia on Wednesday, January 15 inside the Mol Arena in their next matchup.

Game Recap: Siena Heights – 70 Cornerstone - 61

First Quarter – Siena Heights – 20 Cornerstone – 10
  • It was a slow start for the Golden Eagles to open the game as they were forced to call a timeout as they found themselves in a 9-0 hole early.
  • Out of the Golden Eagle timeout, Cornerstone used an 8-2 run to get right back into the game to make it an 11-8 game.
  • Stephanie Ainsworth made it a 14-10 game thanks to a layup as three-minutes remain in the first quarter.
  • The Golden Eagles were held scoreless for the final three minutes as Siena Heights would score six more points to take a 20-10 lead into the second quarter.
Second Quarter – Siena Heights – 32 Cornerstone – 20
  • The Saints opened the second quarter on a quick 5-3 run to extend their lead 25-13 over the Golden Eagles.
  • Back-to-back threes from Jaylee Long and Jaxi Long made it a 25-19 game as five minutes remain in the second quarter.
  • Siena Heights used a 6-0 run of their own to reextend their lead, 31-19 over the Golden Eagles.
  • Jaylee Long hits a free throw to end a five-minute scoreless streak, but the Golden Eagles find themselves down 32-20 after 20 minutes of play.
  • Cornerstone has struggled from the floor and free throw line to start this game, shooting 7-24 for 29.2% from the field and 3-8 from the free throw line for 37.5%.
Third Quarter – Siena Heights – 51 Cornerstone - 35
  • Siena Heights continued to be the aggressors out of halftime as a quick 7-3 run made it a 39-23 game.
  • Jaxi Long completed the three-point play and Olivia Kubik would follow with a three to cut into the Saints lead as they trail 40-29 5:46 left in the third.
  • The Golden Eagles found some scores from Jaxi Long and Stephanie Ainsworth, but the Saints would respond every time as they continued to lead 47-33.
  • Cornerstone had great opportunities to close the gap to end the third but were unable to do so as they found themselves down 51-35 as they head into the final quarter of play.
Fourth Quarter – Siena Heights – 70 Cornerstone - 61
  • Cornerstone opened the fourth quarter on a nice 7-2 run thanks to a quick five points from Jaxi Long that made it a 53-42 game with eight minutes left.
  • Siena Heights has responded with a 7-3 run of their own to reextend their lead to 15, 60-45 as five minutes remain in the fourth.
  • Back-to-back threes from Mackenzie Goodwin and Jaxi Long made it a 10-point game, 62-52 with three minutes left on the clock.
  • A Jaxi Long pullup jumper and a Jaylee Long three made it a 63-57 game with under two minutes left.
  • The Golden Eagles scored a few more but were unable to overcome their big deficit as they fall to Sienna Heights 70-61.
